The country Shannon&#39;s mercs attacked. Forsyth suggested mineral wealth, but in reality it was offshore oil. Forsyth himself funded an attempt to take the country, buying weapons and a small tramper called the Albatross. They had engine-trouble and were boarded, lucky to get away with it, they were still in international waters and it was uncertain which country they were going to attack. There have been other attempts since. Forsyth based his book on a real plot thought to have been slotted for &#39;63.<br /><br />Methinks things might have been better for the locals if that plot had taken place and been successful. Gotten rod of the blacks, anyway.
