Thanks PG. Being gay, I'm concerned over what I'm seeing here. I've never liked the "breeder" talk, and the strident in-your-face stuff my fellow glbt-ers put on people. I know it comes from lots of anger over society's rejection. Please don't let this sort of behavior sour you to all gay and lesbians. We can also be very nice people. Is it really a surprise that gay people too can be power hungry, authoritarian, or pathological? These traits can be found in all people, no matter the orientation, ethnic background, gender, etc. But don't let that prejudice you. Stick to love and friendliness, resist hatred, or you might become what you hate. SG

Indeed. And God forbid we should consider the notion that most gay people (male or female) wish they could fit in better and be more accepted by society. God forbid we should focus on the fact that gay people eat, sleep, work, pay taxes, play sports or do any of the things we do.
Yes God forbid all of that, for apparently God wants us to focus on the sex acts 'they' commit, and to be disgusted by them and to judge them as inferior or lesser people because their sexual drives are different than ours.

In amongst the discussion of terms and what they mean (or don't mean as is the case here) I remembered being harangued back in uni by some lesbian who explained that 'homosexual' was entirely the wrong word to use for lesbians since 'homo' meant man (as in 'homo sapiens') and sexual meant sexual (as in sexual). Which is to say, it described someone who had sex with men. Groan. And since 'gay' was also clearly identified with males it too was no good. That's why lesbians had to be called lesbians.

Of course had it suited her, she could have declared that since a lesbian was originally an inhabitant of the Island of Lesbos, half of whom were and still are men, clearly that word was no good.

Welcome to the Cheshire Cat School of Philology wherein a word may mean whatever one wishes as long as it's a rejection of inclusion. God forbid we should define ourselves by way of inclusion and commonality.

Or to put it another way, if one views all of this semantics cum politics as bullshit designed to cover the true point of the exercise, that being a variety of Hegelian faction splitting, then most everything in regards to gay politics makes much more sense.

I once lived in an apartment building with a truly nutbar screaming lesbian from hell (screaming = 105dB = FUCK YOU, YOU FUCKING BITCH!! YOU FUCKING CUNT!! FUCK OFF AND NEVER COME BACK!! etc. etc. ad nauseam). Unsurprisingly, everyone in the building hated her but as an act of perversity I persisted in smiling and saying hello whenever I saw her. Anyway, there I am moving out and I knock on her door to say goodbye. She asks me if I knew who was moving in and then says, "I hope it's a lesbian!"

Me: "Well, gee, I don't know... but if it was me I'd just be looking for someone quiet you know..."

"Er, yeah, sure... that too." She says, not quite sure if I was having a go at her.

Never mind the irony, here's my point: Of all the things to wish for in a neighbour she had no thoughts on the matter apart from hoping that whoever it might be was as likewise defined by centrifugal forces as she was. It's kind of sad if you think about it.
