ZACHARY NEAGLE AND CHILD ABUSE CASES IN IDAHO

Zachary, from Idaho in the USA.

It is suspected that 14 year old Zachary Neagle and his sister were repeatedly sexually abused by their father.

A relative reportedly told police he found child pornography on a computer in the Neagle home showing children as young as 8 or 9 engaged in sexual acts.

Zachary's mother is in a mental hospital.

Zachary called 911 from the house, saying, "My dad’s been shot."

He initially told police he was in his room listening to music when he heard a shot.

Jason S. Neagle, 32, Caldwell, died at his home on May 16, 2009.

Zachary has been charged with the murder of his father.

Zachary has appeared in court with shackles attached to his hands and torso, and wearing a prison uniform.

"In March 1990 a 10-year old boy, Timothy (his name was not released by the authorities for privacy reasons), entered therapy for disturbing dreams of sexual abuse and torture. "Timothy told therapists and later police detectives that his experiences had taken place in Rupert, a Southern Idaho town close to where Baby X's remains had been found.

"Shortly thereafter, Timothy claimed that during a Satanic ritual he had witnessed the sacrifice of an infant who may well have been Baby X.

"Timothy's recollections were later published in the South Idaho Press and included a graphic description of a Satanic ritual.

According to Timothy: "They put me on a table with a Bible. The devil is there. They pray to the devil. 18 people stand around.

"The devil makes these people hurt me.

"They hurt me so bad.

"They hurt me in the private parts.

"They have hurt me so many times.

"The devil makes bad people.

The authorities were reluctant to file charges.

In November 1991 the Idaho Attorney General's office took over the investigation of the case.

In 1992 the Attorney General's Office released his report.

It was decided that Baby X had not been mutilated and could have died of pneumonia.

It was thought that Timothy "had never witnessed a Satanic ritual and ... may have invented the story".

On 30 July 2009, "A 26-year-old Rupert woman charged with 11 sex crimes against children has been scheduled for a preliminary hearing on some of the charges Friday.

"Emily Kay Thurber is charged with one count of lewd conduct with a child, one count of sexual battery of a minor child, two counts of sexual abuse of a child, three counts of statutory rape and four counts of criminal conspiracy.

"Prosecutors say the charges stem from incidents between 2005 and 2008 with two victims. They are split among three separate court cases.

"Thurber’s fiance, 30-year-old Joseph David Lentz of Idaho Falls, was accused of taking part in the alleged abuse.

The book World Hunger: Twelve Myths (12 Myths About Hunger.) tells us the following:

1. The world produces enough food.

But low incomes prevent many people from getting enough to eat.

The elite (A) prevent the poor from owning land (B) pay starvation wages.

2. Climate is a factor.

In America many homeless people die from the cold every winter.


Rich people in Kenya will not starve. Kenya exports food.

3. Birth rates are falling rapidly worldwide.

In countries like Nigeria, Brazil and Bolivia, lots of food is grown but many people are too poor to buy a decent meal.

The Netherlands has little land per person but manages to feed its people and export food.

Countries like Cuba and Sri lanka have managed to greatly reduce population growth rates.

They have done this by improving the lives of the poor, especially poor women.

4. Efforts to feed the hungry are not causing the environmental crisis.

Large corporations are mainly responsible for deforestation.

Most pesticides are applied to export crops.

Cuba overcame a food crisis through self-reliance and sustainable, virtually pesticide-free agriculture.

5. We must fight the prospect of a ‘New Green Revolution' based on biotechnology, which threatens to further accentuate inequality.

6. Large landowners often leave much land idle.

A World Bank study of northeast Brazil estimates that redistributing farmland into smaller holdings would raise output an astonishing 80 percent.

7. The market only works efficiently when everyone has a decent income.


8. As a result of 'Free Trade', Brazil exports soybean ­to feed Japanese and European livestock.

Export crop production squeezes out basic food production.

Since NAFTA there has been a net loss of jobs in the USDA and Mexico.

9. Poor people, such as the Zapatistas in Chiapas, seek change.

We should remove the obstacles often created by large corporations, U.S. government, World Bank and IMF policies.

10. Most U.S. aid works directly against the hungry.

US aid is used to keep repressive governments in power.

11. Low wages ­in the Third World may mean cheaper bananas, shirts, computers and fast food for Americans and Europeans.

But the system leads to greater poverty for the majority.

Corporations seek cheaper and cheaper labour.

12. ­The 'right to unlimited accumulation of wealth' ­is in conflict with 'ending hunger'.

The British rounded up 160,000 women and children and put them into concentration camps.

Around 26,000 Boer women and children died in those camps.

80% of the dead were children under the age of 16.

2. Marr also tells us about the British "science" of eugenics.

Some of the British Imperialists wanted to discourage some of the poorer people from breeding.

This helped to inspire the German Racial Purity Society.

Some might see links between the British Empire and the Third Reich.

He refused to sit down.

He ignored several requests to start work.

The 62 year-old teacher seized the boy by his belt and sweatshirt and removed him from the classroom.

The teacher was suspended.

The police were called.

Should the authorities, responsible for this injustice, be sacked?

2. A classroom assistant asked a boy to take off his jacket and put away his phone.

The pupil threatened to stab him.

The classroom assistant removed the boy from the class.

The boy started kicking the classroom assistant.

The classroom assistant swept his feet from under him and lowered him to the ground.

The classroom assistant was charged with assault.

He was ordered by social services to leave his wife and teenage daughters and move out of his home.

Magistrates cleared him.

And teachers faced with disruptive kids should have the support of the authorities.

On 27 October 2009, Jenni Russell, in The Guardian wrote about how the UK authorities are teaching our children that aggression can pay.

According to Jenni Russell, teachers "have the responsibility for what goes on in classrooms, but it's disruptive pupils who have the power...

" Classrooms are becoming more difficult to manage because the policy of inclusion means that children with emotional, mental or physical difficulties are being put into mainstream schools without the extra support they need to cope...

"A survey by the NUT found that 60% of teachers had to deal every week with pupils swearing at them or refusing to do any work.

"A poll by the Teachers' Support Network found that a fifth were sworn at every day, two-fifths had been assaulted, and almost half had been threatened with violence. In total almost 18,000 teachers are assaulted by schoolchildren every year...

"Now we let belligerent, disruptive 15-year-olds claim that being touched or moved by an adult is in itself an assault.

"This inversion of power is indefensible. It serves no one; not the children who cannot learn in chaotic classes, or the teachers hamstrung by our anxieties.

"It is, ironically, a deep disservice to the disruptive pupils themselves, who discover that aggression can pay, while learning none of the skills that will make them desirable to society when they emerge into it: consideration, self-control, and diligence."

Ed Balls serves in the UK Cabinet as Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families.
