"In 1992 my mother had a visit from a woman claiming to be from the Department of Education and a uniformed senior police officer.

"She was told that if I ever claimed that I was abused at Witherslack Hall School (or during the years before I was sent there when I would disappear for days or weeks between the ages of 9 & 13) that she was not to believe me.

"The police officer then made it clear that if I ever did speak out that she and I would be die in an accident.

"I got the message.

Laura Pahomova had been a student at Blackburn College.

Greater Manchester Police are not treating the death as suspicious

Laura Pahomova was staying at the Light Boutique Aparthotel.

Laura moved to Blackburn from her native Latvia.

'THE FRAMING OF STEVEN TRUSCOTT'

On 9 June 1959, 12-year-old Lynne Harper disappeared near an air force base south of Clinton, in Ontario, in Canada.

Two days later, air force searchers discovered her body on a nearby farm.

It looks as if the police decided to frame a 14-year-old called Steven Truscott.

Perhaps this was to protect some well-connected child abuser and child abuse ring.

There were a number of possible suspects, including the following:

1. A convicted pedophile who was stationed at the airforce base at Clinton at the time of Lynne Harper's death.

A retired police detective felt this man was capable of murdering a child.

In his house there was an eight-volume transcript of Steven Truscott's hearing before the Supreme Court of Canada in 1966-67.

2. An airman, Sgt Alexander Kalichuk, who had a home close to the base, and who was a former alcoholic and psychiatric patient known for having a sexual interest in children.

He had tried to pick up a 10-year-old girl two weeks before Lynne's death.

He fits the description of a man who was seen trying to pick up other children in rural areas.

3. A convicted rapist who worked on the Clinton base as an electrician at least one day a week. 

The man had been to the Lynne's home before the murder to repair a clothes dryer.
4. A minister and "accused sexual offender" who lived just north of the Clinton base.

He has been accused of sexual assault by his daughters.

One says that when she was 6, she saw her father carrying the limp body of a girl towards a grassy, treed area.

Apparently the police were only interested in framing Steven Truscott.

Steven Truscott and Lynne Harper were in Grade 7 at the Air Vice Marshal Hugh Campbell School located on the north side of the Air Force base.

In the early evening of 9 June 9, 1959, Steven gave Lynne a ride on the crossbar of his bicycle, from the school northwards along the County Road.

Steven says that he took Lynne to the intersection of the County Road and Highway 8, where he left her unharmed.

Steven says that when he arrived at a bridge, he looked back toward the intersection where he had dropped Lynne off and saw that a vehicle had stopped and that Lynne was in the process of entering it.

At 11:20 that evening, Lynne's father reported Lynne missing.

On 12 June, Steven was taken into custody.

Steven's trial began in September.

Karen Daum told police that she was looking for turtles in a river when she saw Steven ride over a bridge on his bicycle.

This agreed with the evidence given by two boys. 

Their statements all supported Steven's version of events. 

Karen Daum was not called as a witness in 1959 trial of Steven Truscott.

All the evidence presented in court against Steven was circumstantial, and 'centred on placing Lynne's death within a narrow time frame which possibly implicated Steven'.

The jury returned a verdict of guilty.

In 1959, 14-year-old Steven Truscott was sentenced to death for the murder of Lynne Harper.

An application for leave to appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada was denied.

In 1969, Steven was released on parole.

He married and raised three children.

Steven continued to maintain his innocence until 2007, when he was formally acquitted of the crime.

He was awarded $6.5 million in compensation.

In 1966, Isabel LeBourdais argued in The Trial of Steven Truscott that Steven had been convicted of a crime he did not commit.

In 2000, an interview on CBC Television's The Fifth Estate revived interest in his case. 

Together with a subsequent book by journalist Julian Sher, they suggested that significant evidence in favour of Truscott's innocence had been ignored in the original trial.

According to Nick Davies:

In 1998, the Guardian revealed the international police hunt for two unidentified men who had made the 'Bjorn tape', a video which recorded their sexual assault on Bjorn, a young Dutch boy ... limp and hooded... strapped into a chair.

Dutch police found Bjorn. 

It turned out that Bjorn had contacted the authorities a year earlier to complain that a Dutch man, whom he named, had been drugging and raping him since he was only three years old, most recently with the assistance of an English man. 

The Dutch man had been tried but acquitted. 

The Dutch man sued Bjorn for making a malicious complaint against him. 

Bjorn collapsed into mental illness.

The tape proved that the boy had been telling the truth.

The 'English man' is John Peters, a former soldier, now believed to be in Asia.

The Guardian wrote about Warwick Spinks who, in Amsterdam, joined a group of British men who produced snuff videos in which five boys were reportedly raped and murdered.

Currently, Spinks is out of jail, having served a short sentence.

Fleet Street has many stories about powerful abusers who have evaded justice. 

One such is Peter Morrison, formerly the MP for Chester and the deputy chairman of the Conservative Party. 

Ten years ago, Chris House, the crime reporter for the Sunday Mirror, twice received tip-offs from police officers who said that Morrison had been caught cottaging in public toilets with underaged boys and had been released with a caution. 

Morrison was not charged by the police because he was well connected.

There is clear evidence of paedophile rings infiltrating parts of the child protection system, and using political or social power to conceal their activities.

Some are never brought to trial – like the group of men who were believed by police to be abducting homeless girls from the streets of London in the early 1990s and holding them in a converted garage with padded walls, where they were being abused and finally killed. 

The man who was said to be disposing of the girls’ bodies was identified by police in Wales.

But, the police 'were unable' to identify those who had hired him or to find evidence to charge him.

Jason Swift has links to Baby P. In 1985, 14-year-old Jason Swift was killed by a child-abuse gang. Jason is believed to have lived in Islington council's Conewood Street children's home. A close male relative of Baby P reportedly recruited boys from children's homes in Islington for the child-abuse ring. Islington children were reportedly sent to Jersey, the island linked to child abuse.

Robert Oliver and Sidney Cooke and their friends abducted, drugged, raped and killed Jason Swift, Barry Lewes and Mark Tildesley. 

They were convicted only of manslaughter and given short sentences. 

Officers from Operation Orchid were 'never able' to bring any charges at all in relation to six other boys who, they believed, had also died at the hands of the same ring.

Warrington

Greystone Heath, an approved school for boys in Warrington, had a number of child-abusing paedophile staff who raped a large number of boys.

The Greystone abusers then fanned out.

Keith Laverack went to childrens’ homes in Cambridgeshire; Alan Langshaw became Principal of St Vincent’s Catholic boys’ home in Formby; Grain and Shuttleworth were both promoted to other homes in the Warrington area; Steve Norris went to North Wales. At their new homes, all of them continued to rape boys who were in their care and wherever they went, they crossed the paths of other paedophiles.

The Mail on Sunday reported that children from Islington childrens homes were taken to the 'child abuse' island of Jersey 'on unofficial visits'. A close relative of Baby P was reportedly involved with the Islington child abuse ring.

In Cambridgeshire, Keith Laverack worked with numerous colleagues, four of whom are now also suspected of abusing children.

Dennis Grain worked in Doncaster for the same group of private schools as Terence Hoskins who went on to become headteacher of St Aiden’s Community Home in Widnes, where he liked to thrash naked boys with a cane, which he then pushed into their backsides, while his housemaster, Colin Dick, indecently assaulted those who caught his eye.

Dennis Grain had previously attacked boys in Danesford childrens’ home in Congleton, opening the door to three others, John Clarke, Joseph Smith and Brian Hudson, who set about the boys with relish. Dennis Grain, in the meantime, went off to work at Eton, where he became a housemaster. The web is almost endless.

While he was Principal of St Vincent’s, Alan Langshaw recruited a care worker named Edward Stanton, who joined in Langshaw’s orgy. Stanton appears to have got the job through the good offices of Roy Shuttleworth, who was continuing to abuse the boys at Greystone and who is believed to have known Stanton from their time in Birmingham when they took the same course in residential child care.

The residential child care course in Birmingham is believed to have been lectured by Peter Righton, a notorious paedophile. 

Righton, for his part, belonged to the Paedophile Information Exchange, along with Jack Bennett who joined in the abuse at Greystone. 

Righton had earlier worked in the same childrens’ home in Maidstone, Kent as Peter Howarth, who went on to become a legendary abuser in the homes of North Wales where he shared his indulgence with Steve Norris, formerly of Greystone.

Peter Righton lectured not only in Birmingham but in numerous other colleges. 

Before he was finally taken to court and convicted, he became a highly regarded consultant in child care and, eventually, the Director of Education at the prestigious National Institute of Social Work in London, a position from which he was able to have some influence on Government policy.

With similar cynicism, Keith Laverack, who opened the catalogue of abuse at Greystone Heath, went on to run the Guardian Ad Litem panel for Cambridgeshire County Council, with the job of representing the interests of children in court cases. 

This job not only introduced him to the most vulnerable children in the area but also gave him access to files on abused children all over the country. 

Terence Hoskins, who worked with some of the Greystone abusers, used connections with South Yorkshire police to get access to his own file, from the supposedly secret National Criminal Intelligence Service, NCIS.

Roger Saint who spent years assaulting his foster children in Clwyd secured himself a job on the local adoption panel, from which he could referee complaints about people like himself...

Tunisian daily La Presse has warned of "political fanaticism" gripping the country.

The Shot At Dawn Memorial at the National Arboretum in Staffordshire commemorates the young British soldiers shot by their own officers.

On October 29th, 1916 the Illustrated Sunday Herald had an article on punishment in the British army.

The article was about Field Punishment Number 1, commonly known as 'crucifixion'. 

The article was written by Robert Blatchford who quoted a letter that he had received describing the punishment given to a soldier who had lost his gas helmet in a marsh. 

The young soldier was tied by the neck, waist, hands and feet in a crucifiction position. 

The soldier died.

Field Punishment Number 1 required the offender to be tied up in the crucifiction position for two hours a day for three consecutive days out of four for a period totalling up to 21 days.

During World War One, over 3,000 young British soldiers were sentenced to death by military courts.

Lt Colonel S C Marriott wrote:

"The last time we went down for a rest I had as many as 31 men tied to the wheel (the crucifiction punishment) at the same time...

"Even Eckes, my second in command, had his faithful servant strung up for forgetting to put his anti-gas helmet over his shoulder one day..."

Harry Farr

During World War I, Britain executed many its own soldiers, some as young as 14 years of age.(http://www.wsws.org/articles/1999/nov1999/shot-n16.shtml)

From an article by Harvey Thompson at WSWS 16 November 1999:

A typical case is that of Harry Farr, who joined the British Expeditionary Force in 1914 and fought in the trenches.

His position was repeatedly shelled, and in May 1915 he collapsed with strong convulsions.

In hospital, his wife Gertrude - who was denied a widow's pension after the war - recalled, "he shook all the time. 

"He couldn't stand the noise of the guns. 

"We got a letter from him, but it was in a stranger's handwriting. He could write perfectly well, but couldn't hold the pen because his hand was shaking." 

It is now thought that Farr was possibly suffering from hypacusis, which occurs when the eardrums are so damaged that the auditory nerve becomes exposed, making loud noises physically unbearable. 

Despite this, Farr was sent back to the front and fought at the Somme. 

After several months of fighting, he requested to see a medical orderly but was refused.

In Farr's Court Martial papers, the Sergeant Major is quoted as saying "If you don't go up to the f*****g front, I'm going to f*****g blow your brains out" to which Farr simply replied "I just can't go on."

The Court Martial was over in 20 minutes. Harry Farr had to defend himself. 

General Haig signed his death warrant and he was shot at dawn on October 16, 1916.

Iraqis have reported being tortured after being sent to the Joint Forward Intelligence Team (JFIT) based at the Army's Shaibah Logistics Base, 13 miles from Basra, between 2004 and 2007.

The British military are accused of having photos of a man sexually abusing a child.

In one account the interrogators made an image which had a suspect's head superimposed on the body of the man who is sexually abusing the child.

"The photographs were of Western faces and the people looked to be around 15 to 16 years old."

Reportedly the military threatening to spread the image throughout Basra.

One detainee says that interrogators threatened to rape his wife and kill his children.

Detainees' witness statements appear to corroborate each other by referring to named soldiers responsible for their torture.

Iraqi lawyers claim that the interrogators were a mix of soldiers, MI5 and civilian staff and that they took their orders directly from London.

"He hit me again and again with the hammer for at least three minutes on different parts of my body, but mainly concentrating on my stomach... I vomited later when I was in the tank and there was blood in the vomit."

Mr Shihab, a policeman, said the chief interrogator was dressed in civilian clothes.

Mr Shihab alleges the interrogators superimposed his head on the photograph of a man sexually abusing a child.
