It's all about inequality says economist Will Hutton

"Inequality has surpassed the levels of Edwardian England."

Inequality was declining until the 1970s.

It was in the 1980s that nasty people like Reagan and Thatcher began the process of increasing inequality.



How severe is the inequality?

Eighty-five people control the same amount of wealth as half the world's population.

Big corporations are evil.

According to Hutton the plan was to:

1. Reduce the power of the Trade Unions.

2. Reduce the taxes on the rich.

3. Allow vast monopolies.

A. A mountain of debt

B.  A weakening in the growth rate compared to the 1960s

Why did Britain lose so many of its industries, at a time when South Korea was building up its industries?

The Court Martial of SAS Sniper Danny Nightingale led to a letter written by witness 'Soldier N', and sent to his in-laws, coming to public attention.

In the letter, 'Soldier N' boasting that the SAS were behind the death of Princess Diana.[71]

Now, in 2014, poor people can register with a new national health insurance programme.

The current 'neoliberal' government of General Yudhoyono is not keen on the scheme, which has been forced on it by a 2004 law that said that all Indonesians must be covered by insurance.

The professor thinks that the US $1.7bn that has been allocated to the health ministry for 2014, will only meet 40 percent of the market costs of care.

In the UK 40% of teachers leave teaching within five years of becoming qualified.

Sir Michael Wilshaw, the Chief Inspector of Schools, says the main reason why teachers quit is the lack of discipline in the classroom.

In the USA, anywhere between 40 and 50 percent of teachers will leave the classroom within their first five years.



One teacher gives a reason: "It’s just a lack of respect.

"Teachers in schools do not call the shots. They have very little say."

Essentially, schools in the UK and USA are like special sorts of zoos where the lions are not separated from the lambs.

And the government officials who are ultimately responsible for these zoos are corrupt fools.

My town used to have several small schools.

Now, sadly, there is only one giant school.

Governments should not dictate how schools are to be run.

Gove is making a mess of education.

"Schools should prepare pupils to interpret data and understand uncertainties.

"We need kids that can make things and do things, and that won't happen by giving them a heap of facts."

Why does one child succeed in life, and another one 'fail'?

These are skills such as self confidence, optimism, perseverance, curiosity, conscientiousness, and self-control.

In other words, emotional intelligence, as taught by good parents, good mentors and good private schools, is what matters.
