Your rant against electronic voting is misguided at best. Paper is no panacea, as Florida proved in 2000. In the wake of the vote for Scottish independence just a couple of years ago, many eyewitness accounts and video proofs of fraud counting paper ballots were published on the internet, yet there was never even a recount.
Electronic machines do not miscount votes; programmers do. Rigorous controls can be instituted to insure that the programs are correct, that the correct version is running, and that the machines are operated properly. The problem is not the machines, the problem is that the *people* programming, selling, buying, and operating them have been playing fast and loose. We have seen the same kinds of problems with counting paper ballots.
Any system can be subverted, but I think with proper controls electronic voting can be more secure than paper ballots.
