Twin Peaks is exceptional and I know I'll never fully understand it but reading your blog shines another light on it. Also recently watched "Journey Through Twin Peaks" on youtube which helps to explain some more of twin peaks story. Thanks for all your work, I've enjoyed them immensely through the last few years, keep it up!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09934095287525348426noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6076855809263297950.post-14676160362649281572016-09-20T12:51:10.652+01:002016-09-20T12:51:10.652+01:00Magnifiques explication et un énorme travail de vo...Magnifiques explication et un énorme travail de votre part...Merci beaucoup:)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11056112314174928802noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6076855809263297950.post-9141379236753067802016-03-25T20:48:21.450+00:002016-03-25T20:48:21.450+00:00Thanks for your support. Forget about everyone, I ...Thanks for your support. Forget about everyone, I know I do...I don't care what anyone thinks about this stuff I write. If they're friends, then they shouldn't be judging you, even more so, if they do not and cannot understand. How can anyone judge, when their position is one that is born from ignorance? My writing is what it is and I stand by it, sink or swim.

I can barely watch any TV or film, as it is...the dumbing-down over the last two decades has been phenomenal and this is reflected in my limited viewing habits. There are no shows or series that I regularly watch...such is the homogenization of TV and its viewership.

I wouldn't concern yourself with the copy cat issue. Folk have been stealing my work and passing it off as their own for years. I know this because I've seen countless examples and never with any reference to the source. Whenever I produce posts that contain aspects from other sources (things I didn't personally find), I always try to cite the source. Ah well, that is the nature of these things, I guess?

Thanks again, for your appreciation and interesting comments.

Horselover Phathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05166435780296983828noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6076855809263297950.post-44140334506905624982016-03-25T18:23:03.981+00:002016-03-25T18:23:03.981+00:00Hi...'Beast Incarnate', yes I've often...Hi...'Beast Incarnate', yes I've often toyed with the idea of including that image, I think I may have used it somewhere on this blog before. Cooper will face his own 'beast incarnate' at the TV show's climax, his 'shadow self/beast doppelganger.' This overlaps with black lodge Bob (the demonic beast) who is literally able to 'incarnate himself into beasts' (the owl). The 'beast incarnate' image is given in respect of a veterinary practice. Spoiler alert...Bob (the beast) incarnates in Cooper, in the final images of the series.

I've mentioned 'the cherry pie' aspect here before too, there are overlaps that connect to Lolita (where the 'cherry pie' phrase is used by Humbert). Popping the cherry via the (yonic) pie...is the sexual allusion that can be implied. We also get a related 'toe-nail painting' (Ellory Batts, at One Eyed Jacks with Audrey) reference in Twin Peaks, one that also echoes a similar scene in Kubrick's Lolita (Lolita/Humbert). One Eyed Jacks (a sexual allusion, to the one-eyed male member), cherry pie (the virgin and her privates) and relating to a brothel. A brothel that is owned by the Horne brothers (the male horn and horny).

You mention the Shelley scene, where she mocks the events at the funeral (Leland's fall on to the coffin), I've always found that scene to be rather disconcerting.

Yes, Cooper is seemingly blinded by the idyllic appearance of the town and its people, at least for much of the series and particularly from the beginning. Surface appearances can be very deceptive though and I think this is an aspect of Lynch's wider work. Similarities are seen in his Blue Velvet (where MacLachlan/Cooper also played lead) via Lumberton. The film opens with the ideal of the white picket fence, a feeling of general loveliness and simple contrary townsfolk. Underneath this shiny veil, lies the (hidden) seething degeneracy. The contrast between these two opposing states, seems to heighten the effect of each.

The dream sequence which Cooper has (where Laura whispers in his ear) and discovers the killer identity really does work in the whole scheme of the show. It is just very tricky to decipher all the elements, especially over a show that stretches over many episodes. I think I may have cast light on it all in a recent post (link posted at bottom). That is not to say, that there aren't other subtextual elements involved (which you mention).

One thing that does need to appreciated (imo), is that this was a 'prime time' TV show that had 'incest/murder' at its centre, something that was extraordinary for the time that it was made (very late 80s and early 90s). I think the show had to possess some of these 'lighter' (if not zany) aspects (mixed with the severe content), just so they could get away with showing it. If it lacked these qualities, I don't think that it would ever have been shown on prime time, perhaps it would never have even been made. If we fast-forward to 'today' this stuff wouldn't be seen as being so extreme. This is perhaps testament, to the hardening of content that has since followed in recent decades.

Thanks for your comment.

http://subliminalsynchrosphere.blogspot.com/2016/02/bowie-from-kether-to-malkuth.html

Horselover Phathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05166435780296983828noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6076855809263297950.post-37420658572605456302016-03-21T20:58:38.878+00:002016-03-21T20:58:38.878+00:00You're friggin awesome. I don't post under my real name because I am black and when I did before to blogs of this kind, some of my friends judged me like I was Looney Tunes. It hurts my heart because we miss so much when we don't explore culture in general. Don't dismiss what you don't understand and don't be arrogant about learning. Thank you for your blog. I posted the above "book" regarding your blog post. This blog opened a whole new world for me and rid me of writers block. Don't worry, I am no copy cat, but you helped me learn how to use symbols and about congruence. Sorry to sound like a weirdo stan, but I love your writing. The thing that was a catalyst for me to comment is that I began binge watching Twin Peaks because of this post. When I saw the veterinarian's office sign outside say "For the beast incarnate", I almost fell over.Your synopsis is frickin AWESOME SAUCE!When Agent Cooper defends the town in the beginning for being a town of upstanding people, I was done. When Laura Palmer's mother freaks out because she knows her husband has inappropriate behaviors for and with their daughter, she screams aloud, but is dismissed, as women often are, for being an emotional wreck.Sarah Palmer exclaims "what is happening in this house?", it's very telling. Then the woman who gets her ass whipped by Leo makes fun of the up and down casket scene while random townspeople laugh is why Bobby exclaims that the whole town killed Laura. The rape of Laura Palmer by the entire town via symbolism shakes me to the core. The FBI agent who gets hit by the town sheriff during the autopsy and pending funeral of Laura falls on top of Lauras' body is crazy. The fact that Agent Cooper fashions himself psychic and kisses Laura Palmer in a dream, though he would probably justify it and say it was Laura's cousin in the dream, not her, is profound to me.It symbolizes the love affair he is having with the town. He, Agent Cooper looooovvvves to point out who is in love with whom, but he too has a secret love - it's the town itself. He is willfully blind, much like the abused men and women in the town. He fits right in.It's like Agent Cooper is courting the town literally and not investigating a murder. He took up for the sheriff of the town and not his own collegue because he is blinded by the love of the town. He purposely cuts Laura's autopsy short, one that could save considerable time finding her killer as a gesture of love. Chivilary isn't dead. As I begin to see, Agent Cooper is just fine taking his time finding Laura's killer because it prolongs his love affair with the town. Also, off note, but on topic, Agent Cooper's love for Cherry Pie in Twin Peaks is really skeevy, creep-ola, scary and insinuating that the young women here are so tastey, (My, my cherry pie) that they are to die for. Implying he too understands why Laura Palmer and underage girls in this town are sopped up with biscuits. Like I said, I am at the beginning of the series, only episode 3, but I can't shake the feeling that Audrey Horn is also Laura Palmer. I feel Donna - Laura Flynn Boyle's character, was Laura's "frienemy". She hung out with her (at this point in the game for me), because she was wanted by everyone and popular because of her looks. I think she secretly hated Laura - Donna/Laura that is - and Audrey only hates Laura because she is Laura. She is Laura's Self Sabotage Incarnate to me. She too is full of secrets, but ready to tell. She is who Laura saw herself as - another girl with "daddy issues".Both were probably jealous of the other assuming the other had it better. The grass being greener scenario. Anyway, sorry for the long ramble. I just got really excited understanding what various pop culture phenomenon means at its core. I want to thank you for all of the time and energy that you put into this work. It is greatly appreciated. More black people should read your blog as well as The Mask of God and Blog of Caverns. I tell you I LIVE for you guys new posts. I am currently obsessed with Twin Peaks and will be tuning in. (See Le Monde Primitif.) In his History of Magic, P. Christian, the mouthpiece of a certain French secret society, presents a fantastic account of a purported initiation into the Egyptian Mysteries wherein the 22 major Tarots assume the proportions of trestleboards of immense size and line a great gallery. I don't think there is anything like this on the web as far as connecting Twin Peaks to the knowledge of "mystery schools" (for lack of a better term). In addition, I recently listened to a David Wilcock audio in which he states that the purpose of the Great Pyramid was for a person to go through an initiation ritual, in which they had to face off against a projected version of their "shadow self" (in demonic caricature form). The person attempting the transformation would either die of fear or defeat their shadow self and reach an ascended state. Sounds very familiar.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6076855809263297950.post-71862432726446660042014-02-09T23:28:54.487+00:002014-02-09T23:28:54.487+00:00Thought you'd be interested in the epic mega-p...Thought you'd be interested in the epic mega-post I did on Sharon Tate, and how her life & career sync with Twin Peaks, Kubrick's films, The Black Dahlia and more.
http://overlaphotel.blogspot.com/2014/02/sharon-tate.htmlfoofhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04198990728624767240noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6076855809263297950.post-79820240149712165782013-03-08T15:37:06.293+00:002013-03-08T15:37:06.293+00:00Just a side note about the Snoqualmie Tribe point:...Just a side note about the Snoqualmie Tribe point: The filming location for the Great Northern external scenes/the waterfall in the opening of Twin Peaks is shot at Snoqualmie Falls in Washington, just outside of Seattle.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6076855809263297950.post-39543848343121161982012-11-04T05:23:41.990+00:002012-11-04T05:23:41.990+00:00In The Man Who Fell to Earth David Bowie is partia...In The Man Who Fell to Earth David Bowie is partially blinded at the end of the film.
