My question is - why do so many filmmakers put this symbolism in their movies? Do they have good intentions or bad ones? Are they trying to advertise some gnostic/hermetic path, or tap into meaningful symbols so the audience has a more "powerful" experience?

your valuable work confirms this
i would like to offer a thought which may disturb or enlighten -
the people that study this world are susceptible to the spells that the creators of the works intend to cause harm to all who partake in the visual and audio spells
it is the same for people who work in healthcare and policing fields (they are affected by the daily fallout from their work )
taking a break is therefore healthy -
the link running through various careers via movies made over long periods is particularly interesting and shows a great intuitive intelligance at work
keep up this important work.............

Sorry to hear you're taking a break, but yeah, you've put a lot of effort into each post... and I've thoroughly enjoyed how you lay it out, almost letting the themes tell themselves (you make it seem effortless, though it's obvious how much time you've invested).

You are spot-on with the Lincoln-Osiris theme, and it's not even subliminal -- because I just found out there was a 2008 movie called Tropic Thunder, with Robert Downey Jr., who plays an actor who plays another character, called (I kid you not) ...Sgt. Lincoln Osiris!

One last thought on the whole Mystery religion theme of self-sacrifice... while there is a lot of good to be said for knowing yourself and facing one's ego, I can't help but suspect that the their version of self-sacrifice is a very subtle deception to trick people into progressively lowering their protective spiritual/mental barriers.

What if by the time the Initiate gets to the 'veil of the abyss,' what they are calling the shadow self, the 'dweller on the threshold,' is actually their real self, and what they have embraced as their 'True Self' is a spiritual imposter... what if it's perfectly upside-down? What if 'crossing the abyss' and 'dissolution of the ego' is actually the last layer of spiritual protection and the act of 'self-sacrifice' is literally that... the final destruction of 'self'' and becoming irrevocably possessed by the 'imposter'?

Something important enough to consider, IMHO, given how exactly opposite this concept is of true Christianity and salvation by faith in Jesus alone.

Yeah, I'm struggling a bit at the moment...personal & work life is a bit of a mess and it is affecting my output and my thinking. Hi anon...I already tried posting the main body to Reddit (on the TD page) and I had to take it down...the main reason being, that I was only receiving insults and ridicule. Go figure? It has got to the point whereby, I literally have nowhere to post this info. I have little or no avenues to post my work (other than this blog) and overall, I am close to giving up this kind of writing. I do this for no financial gain...and to receive the kind of abuse that I got from Reddit, well that is certainly very disappointing. Thank you for your interest and appreciation.

I can't post this sort of work at places like Facebook/Twitter etc...because they specialize in the 'trivial' and attention spans tend to last seconds, rather than hours etc. This type of work needs to be considered and that is the problem. Any suggestions as to where to post (in general) would be greatly appreciated.

Hi anon...yes, a few of these aspects have been raised previously. The 2001 Discovery ship..head/spine/sperm overlaps. The brain of God (Sistine Chapel) and Adam etc and including via Spielberg's ET and Cronenberg's Videodrome (spectacular optical convention). Thanks for the comments and additions.

Didya notice in 2001 the ship not only represents sperm but the central nervous system? At the end of the movie Bowman leaves the third eye slot in the eyeball ship. In The Creation of Adam in the Sistine Chapel God sits in a brain. His right hand reaches out through the forehead/thirdeye and points ET style in the iconic part of the piece, and his left hand is the Pineal Gland. In intersteller TARS is a transformer and his sliding pieces give him his mobility, quite wink winkingly the stone that transforms. Oh, and you gave me the idea to watch 2001 and the shining at the same time (line it up by having both films end at the same time), and it yields some (uncannily bizarre, in some places) interesting results visually I'll have to take some pictures and upload them.
