ENCROACHING DARKNESS: THE PHILADELPHIAN THREAT AND THE EXODUS PROMISE

“And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, … I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth” (Revelation 3:7,10).

On Thursday night, September 1, 2022, President “Joseph” Biden was propped up behind the presidential seal in front of historic Independence Hall and gave the most bombastic, provocative, melodramatic and divisive speech that many may feel tempted to compare with Hitler. Personally, I did not watch it as I cannot stand the sight or sound of the man (much like Barack Obama). Or most any of them for that matter. But these two especially (how’s that for honesty). But for the sake of what God is doing in the earth and the incredible signs of warning that He is sending out to not only the born again Church globally, but also the lost world at large, this speech and the bigger picture of what it represents combined with its location begins to take on a life of its own prophetically speaking. It makes those whose spiritual ears are attuned and spiritual eyes affixed look at this event and recognize it for what it is – a God-given sign of what is shortly to come.

EARTH’S DISPENSATIONS: A PROPHECY OF THE SEVEN CHURCHES OF REVELATION

In having just completed the eight part study of the prophetic time era prophecy of each of the Seven Churches of Revelation, as sort of an appendix article added to the end of this series, it is interesting to now observe and note that the Seven Churches of Revelation in chapters 2 & 3 are also a prophecy of Earth’s Dispensations. Not only do they address the concerns of certain local and historic communities and present a prophetic overview of the Church Age, they also seem to allude to the entire history of mankind as well. THE SEVEN CHURCHES IN TIME AGES OF PROPHECY FULFILLMENT: CHURCH CANDLE 7 – THE AGE OF LAODICEA

“And unto the angel of the church of Laodicea write …” (Revelation 3:14).

In these studies of the Seven Churches of Revelation 2 & 3, we have learned that the Apostle John picks up certain types and symbols that lie scattered throughout the Old Testament and traces them to their final conclusion. This series is currently exploring these metaphoric threads in the tapestry of time in order to give you a more comprehensive view of the Savior’s crowning achievement and ultimate victory.

As noted earlier, these letters to the seven churches set forth a pattern of church history, written in advance, a prophecy to guide us into the throne room of the omniscient (all knowing) creator – the one who declares “the end from the beginning” (Isaiah 46:10). THE SEVEN CHURCHES IN TIME AGES OF PROPHECY FULFILLMENT: CHURCH CANDLE 6 – THE AGE OF PHILADELPHIA

In the continuing eight part study of the prophecy of the Seven Churches in Revelation 2 & 3, we now come to part seven in a study of the sixth church mentioned in Christ’s prophecy to the Apostle John regarding these seven churches. In the previous post in this series, we discussed the fifth church called Sardis. This study will look at the Church of Philadelphia – the church of brotherly love. It’s prophetic significance reveals that the Philadelphian church represented the era of great revivals, beginning about 1727 and extending through the development of modern missions – as missionaries traveled around the world, taking the Gospel of eternal salvation through Christ alone to all nations. THE SEVEN CHURCHES IN TIME AGES OF PROPHECY FULFILLMENT: CHURCH CANDLE 3 – THE AGE OF PERGAMOS

In the previous post, we discussed part two of the second church of the seven churches from the book of Revelation called Thyatira. As our present discussion is opened, let us return briefly to John’s vision of Jesus Christ dressed in the attire of the heavenly priesthood and standing in the midst of seven golden candlesticks. Immediately, Jesus instructs John to deliver seven letters to a certain seven churches in Asia. Note that the churches were not located in famous cities of the first century, such as Rome, Alexandria or Jerusalem. Ephesus is the only church of any notoriety, having received another New Testament epistle some years earlier from the hand of the Apostle Paul. To the average first-century reader, the churches may have appeared to be relatively unimportant – simply some local churches served by John. And yet, we must be aware that these letters are exclusively the words of the very Son of God, the last messages to come from the heart and mind of the Savior. THE SEVEN CHURCHES IN TIME AGES OF PROPHECY FULFILLMENT: CHURCH CANDLE 1 – THE AGE OF EPHESUS

In the opening chapter of Revelation (chapter 1), the Apostle John saw saw a golden lamp-stand – the Jewish Menorah. He saw the savior, Jesus Christ, walking in the midst of the lamps holding seven stars in his right hand …

“And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks; And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters. And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp two-edged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength” (Revelation 1:12-16).

We are told that the seven lamps are symbolic of seven New Testament churches to which John was instructed to write letters. The stars represent the angels – perhaps speaking of the pastors of those seven churches.
