Allison Mack has been sentenced to three years in prison for her involvement in the NXIVM sex cult.
The former Smallville actor appeared in court on Wednesday for her sentencing hearing. She had pleaded guilty to charges of racketeering and racketeering conspiracy.
“I made choices I will forever regret,” she said during the hearing at a Brooklyn federal court, also telling the judge she was filled with “remorse and guilt”.

The majority of online recruitment in active sex trafficking cases last year occurred on Facebook, according to a new report from the Human Trafficking Institute.
According to the 2020 Federal Human Trafficking Report, 59 percent of all online sex trafficking recruitment in active cases occurred on Facebook. That number rose to 65 percent in active cases involving children.

KAMLOOPS, British Columbia (AP) — The remains of 215 children, some as young as 3 years old, have been found buried on the site of what was once Canada’s largest Indigenous residential school — one of the institutions that held children taken from families across the nation.
Chief Rosanne Casimir of the Tk’emlups te Secwépemc First Nation said in a news release that the remains were confirmed last weekend with the help of ground-penetrating radar.
More bodies may be found because there are more areas to search on the school grounds, Casimir said Friday.
In an earlier release, she called the discovery an “unthinkable loss that was spoken about but never documented at the Kamloops Indian Residential School.”

We love applications of machine learning that actually benefit society. Here is one that may soon be “Taking Down Human Traffickers Through Online Ads,” reports the Eurasia Review. The algorithm began as a way to spot anomalies (like typos) in data but has evolved into something more. Now dubbed InfoShield, it was tweaked by researchers at Carnegie Mellon University and McGill University. The team presented a paper on its findings at the most recent IEEE International Conference on Data Engineering.

A new bill in Texas seeks to protect children from getting sex change procedures that they may regret later in life by criminalizing parents who do so.
Obtaining these treatments for children would be considered child abuse under the legislation.
The Texas Senate Committee on State Affairs held a hearing over the bill on Monday.
“Children are unable to give informed consent. This bill gives children a chance to get to adulthood with intact bodies,” Republican Executive Committee Member Jill Glover testified.
