In May of this year, US Vice President Joe Biden expressed his gratitude to European leaders for their contribution in changing the attitude of the American public towards same-sex marriage. «Culture and art change people’s attitudes», stressed Biden, pointing out that 85 percent of the success was down to the activities of Hollywood and the American media.

These words have not gone unnoticed by opposition forces in Poland, which has been a staunch ally of Washington over the last few decades and has supported all of its political initiatives. Warsaw, quite predictably, is not hurrying to comment on the perverse initiatives of the US with regard to family values, even if American politicians, as is customary, are trying these initiatives on the whole world for size. Also quite predictably is the silence being maintained by parliamentary opposition parties. In place of these, there are people speaking whose voices do not resound from the rostrums of the Sejm or the Senate, but from the streets of Polish cities. Poles, as a deeply religious Christian nation that observes Catholic values, are not that enamoured with the assassination attempts being made by their American friends on the foundations of the Polish family.

«Our «merdia» (a play on words: merde (fr.) – shit) are taking part in wild attacks on Putin, who is backing up legislation protecting Russian society from the poisonous influence of the homosexual minority…», reads the latest bulletin by the organisation «Patriotic Movement for Poland», and cites a number of examples of Western countries’ poisonous policies related to the promotion of homophilia (2).

For example, a document was presented to the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe on the policy of the French authorities to overturn the «gender stereotypes» of children older than six. From 2013, French schools are planning to introduce a mandatory educational programme based on gender ideology. Gender ideology in the West is notable for impressing on the younger generation the idea that social differences between the sexes are an unnatural produce of social upbringing.

Professor and priest Pavel Bortkevich, who is director of the Centre for Ethics at the Adam Mickiewicz University, alleges that the main aim of policies like these is to destroy the institution of the family: «…There is nothing illegal about homosexuality these days. But we are seeing a problem with its institutionalisation, with equating homosexual relations with the institution of marriage… Along with radical feminism, genderism has now entered the arena… The Beijing Conference on Demography came to a close with findings in favour of abortion, contraception and sterilisation… The next conference in Beijing on women’s rights… came to a close with the same findings: abortion, contraception and sterilisation. At the climate change conference in Copenhagen, a theory was put forward that excessive population growth will lead to global warming. And, consequently, once again – abortion, contraception and sterilisation» (3).

According to Professor Bortkevich, homophilia has already made an impressive leap. By finding its way into university departments, it has penetrated academic circles as a subject for study, giving all kinds of homosexual theories «a certificate of respect». At present, a process is under way for the active penetration of these theories into the political and legal arenas of Europe and America.

This is very troubling for Poles, who have always considered themselves part of Western civilisation. All the more so since these harmful tendencies are also finding their way into the Polish government: for the first time in Poland, members of the LGBT community are being given discounts on hotels in the city of Łódź. Polish Radio and a number of public organisations supported this action.

Poland is currently being faced with the problem of a decreasing population. Young Poles are emigrating to Western Europe, and only some of these are returning home. The number of newborns is falling, while the number of divorces is on the rise. According to the Central Statistical Department, this year the number of deaths exceeded the number of births by 21,000 (4). Against this background, the promotion of homophilia could have irreversible consequences.

Polish intellectuals are trying to find a way out of the situation being created. The absence of a family policy and the lack of financial security for families with newborns are just the tip of the iceberg, they are symptoms of much deeper problems. Poles are going to have to review the entire system of relations between society and the state, which is a Herculean task. Poland, having taken Western liberal theories on the development of society for granted, has partially sacrificed the uniqueness of its own civilisation. The culture of the collective West (the US plus Western Europe) is a more powerful intellectual and world outlook construction than Polish culture, which belongs to a single state and a single people. Polish culture has therefore started to surrender its position under the onslaught of Western culture, by which is meant the supremacy of Anglo-Saxon cultural dogmas.

Initially, following the collapse of the Soviet Bloc, this was perceived uncritically. At the time, philosophical theories of liberal individualism – according to which there is nothing whole, everything whole can be broken up into its autonomous parts and each of these possesses untouchable sovereignty – laid the world outlook foundations for the disintegration of what was once a collective Western society into individuals, and this was reflected in politics, economics and culture. The same happened with nations that found themselves under the intellectual influence of the West, especially in Eastern Europe. After the disintegration of the collective into its constituent parts, the desire to go beyond the boundaries of the individual himself and break him down into parts was a logical continuation. Hence the loyal attitude towards homosexuals, transsexuals and bisexuals, who are the essence of «two in one» (the individual going beyond his own psychological boundaries and changing his nature to the opposite). According to Edmund Adamus, director for Marriage and Family Life at the Diocese of Westminster (Great Britain), the Frankfurt School is behind the wave of «homoterrorism and attempts to dismantle the family» (5).

The Frankfurt School is the collective name given to a group of philosophers who worked in the Institute for Social Research at the University of Frankfurt am Main (Herbert Marcuse, Erich Fromm, Theodor Adorno, Max Horkheimer and others). With Hitler’s rise to power, the Institute moved to America. According to Adamus, members of this school subjected the foundations of the state system to destructive criticism, refused to recognise the influence of tradition, believed in the artificiality of the psychological boundaries of an individual’s world outlook and aspired to overcome them, remained loyal to «pansexualist» theories which did not recognise gender differences as an obstacle to satisfying sexual urges, denied the human mind the right to be the judge of its own actions and so on. Members of the Frankfurt School possessed considerable intellectual influence, as they touched on a range of pressing issues as part of their work – from economics to politics – and as a result were able to bewitch many «searching intellectuals», including both in Poland and Russia.

Today, however, Polish intellectual circles are increasingly turning to the traditions of Catholicism with its strong institution of the family and its social and religious hierarchy. The ancient cradles of the Catholic faith – Spain, Italy and France – are gradually surrendering their positions under pressure from America’s gay policy. Even traditionally Catholic South America is surrendering its position and homosexuals are already able to adopt in Uruguay, Argentina and Mexico. Poland is very nearly standing alone among the Catholic countries of Europe in trying to preserve its family and cultural heritage. As a nation with strong Catholic traditions, Poles could easily move closer to the West in the political arena whilst still retaining their own character in terms of its religious traditions. How successful they are in this is what the future of the Polish people and the Polish state depends on.
