Still, governments are unlikely to mourn the recent passing of Gene Sharp, widely reputed to be the father of the tumultuous "color revolutions" of recent memory. Nor is his departure likely to be regretted by the world's huddled masses, who were cynically deluded by the false promises of this mediatically generated guru and his zealous and corrupt local acolytes. They have no reason to be thankful for being callously instrumentalized to merely exchange one yoke for another, the later often more insufferable than the preceding one.

Curiously, it was the establishment's own mouthpiece, "The New York Times," which disingenuously mourned the "rebel" Sharp as "a preacher’s son whose own gospel of nonviolent struggle inspired velvet revolutions that toppled dictators on four continents, [who] died Jan. 28 at his home in Boston. He was 90."

Things are, of course, considerably more complex than that.

He was systematically misrepresented to the public as a shy, modest, kind-hearted academic passionately attached to the laudable humanist agenda of guiding the oppressed to raise the banner of democracy and topple loathsome dictators world-wide. But on the broad stage, Sharp was, in fact, a key institutional player in laying the theoretical groundwork for a wave of "color revolutions" over the last two decades. Together with his side-kick, Col. Robert Helvey, an intelligence operative turned "academic" just like Sharp, he worked out the "template" for an avalanche of successful political subversion operations on at least "four continents," just as in its funerary puff piece "The New York Times" said. So far, the template they pioneered has been applied in over a dozen successful and several failed coups.

Gene Sharp and Col. Robert Helvey are the principal theoreticians of these pseudo-democratic revolutions directed from above, but professionally packaged to mislead the untrained eye into imagining it was seeing a spontaneous rebellions erupting from below. Their popular dissertations on this subject, such as "Self-liberation" and "From Dictatorship to Democracy," can easily be located on the internet by anyone wishing to read them. Just like the bogus "revolutions" that they championed, Sharp and Helvey also rather audaciously misrepresented themselves. They dissimulated benign figures ensconced in arcane niches of the academic world, passionately committed to the cause of pure democracy. In fact, however, they belonged to and operated out of the entirely different milieu of intelligence agency driven political conspiracies.

As the French political analyst Thierry Meyssan astutely noted, "Sharp has always been present everywhere American interests are put at risk." What a coincidence! His Engels-like collaborator Helvey had once served as the American military attaché in Burma and, also coincidentally no doubt, that was at a time when a domestic "pro-democracy" movement was being set up in that country. Its task was to seize power and realign Burma's policies by moving it within the West's political orbit. None of that is any secret and it can be verified easily with a few clicks on the internet.

The first and fundamental postulate of Sharp's doctrine is that "change" (always understood exclusively as readjusting the policies of the targeted state to conform to the requirements and dictates of the Atlanticist Alliance) is not achieved by just encouraging the population to recognize that it is living in misery and to merely protest about it. Change – according to Sharp – is to be achieved by means of "strategic planning [which] can contribute in major ways to making the application of non-violent struggle significantly more effective than protests and resistance without strategic planning." What appears to be a commonplace thought is actually pregnant with profound practical implications. It foreshadows a serious operation, which is neither spontaneous nor emotional, but rather carefully prepared, measured, and calculated. Potential targets, instruments, and victims of this operation would be wise to disregard Sharp's anodyne rhetoric and pay heed instead to the ruthless substance of his project.

The next point on which Sharp insisted, which also merits careful attention on the part of (as Paul Craig Roberts would put it, "insouciant") victims, usually inclined as they are to underestimate their "non-violent" opponents, is something that Sharp called "strategic thinking." According to Sharp, that refers to the "ability to make realistic assessments of what should be done for the situation to be changed and to achieve the desired goal (…) These plans will need to include how the long-term conflict will begin, how the activities are to develop, and how sub-strategies and individual campaigns for limited issues should contribute to achieving finally the main goal."

Students who, before they discovered Sharp, studied Lenin will unfailingly recognize in the reflections of the ideologue of "non-violent democratic revolution" the influence of the Leninist concept of the "minimal and maximal program." Continuing on in the same Leninist spirit, Sharp stressed that "a major factor in formulating a grand strategy needs to be the test of whether each resistance campaign will weaken or strengthen the opponent's power." Specifically in that regard "acts of social, economic, and political noncooperation (also called boycotts) constitute major classes of the available methods of nonviolent struggle." In other words, the goal of the pseudo-revolutionary political engineering operation is to achieve the paralysis of the defense assets and institutions of the targeted system, which then greatly facilitates the task of demolishing it.

As far as the spontaneity of the process is concerned, Sharp taught that "the early steps of a long-term struggle intended to end the dictatorship will therefore need to be highly limited and carefully staged." The word "staged" gives the game away. It is derived from theatrical terminology. A good political synonym would be "contrived."

Sharp is now ready to administer the death blow to the targeted government. The weakened regime's "pillars of support" (there are six main ones, according to him) are swarmed by the concentrated assault of the local NGO infantry assembled – according to Russian television Channel One commentator Mikhail Leontyev – by "banal recruiting – a complicated amalgam of egoism, careerism, intimidation, and blackmail." Once the job is done, with very few exceptions, the rebellious rabble are demobilized and shoved away ad acta. That is exactly what happened to all but a few of the cynically utilized members of Serbia's "Otpor" movement after in 2000, with Sharp as its godfather, they successfully executed the anti-Milosevic coup for the benefit of their Western controllers paymasters. Most of their rank and file were never heard from again, with identical encores in the Ukraine and other similar places.

Studiously avoiding any comparative analysis of the actual conditions in the imperialist countries sponsoring them, professionally trained demagogues and agitators acting under Sharp's inspiration are taught to skillfully utilize local difficulties and deficiencies in their home countries. The goal is to gain control over the energy of discontentment in order to channel it destructively, exactly as the playbook prescribes. That is the gist of the Sharp Technology of Political Change.

To sum up. The phony idealist Gene Sharp had painted a rosy picture of a "new political order [that] can allow progressive improvements to grow and succeed, as may be required by society's needs and popular decisions. The way will have been opened for building a durable, free, democratic and participatory system."

However, and not that anyone ever asked him to do it, but if anyone had Sharp would have been unable to cite in evidence a single example of a country that was "liberated" due to the application of the "template" laid out in the subversive handbooks that he had written. Utterly unknown is the happy land where, after being subjected to the application of Sharp's liberation doctrines, any "progressive improvements" whatsoever were detected or where anything at all resembling popular decision-making has been observed.

Students who are still considering enrolling in his democracy school should be reminded that Gene Sharp during his lifetime may have been a charlatan but, for all that, his teachings have not remained entirely barren. They indeed have yielded certain fruits, albeit not those which the mentors promised or hare-brained acolytes expected. The actual results range from the economically, socially, and politically devastated lands such as Serbia and the Ukraine, which slowly but surely are sliding into ruin and South American-style dictatorships, to the general breakdown in Georgia under the leadership of the imbalanced pro-Western puppet Saakashvili, to mention just a few of the more conspicuous examples.

The fate of these and other unlucky countries selected for the Sharp treatment and subjected to the incessant blows of his local mercenary NGO condottieri (financed mostly by Soros, be it noted) has surely been dismal. For fairness' sake, however, it needs to be pointed out that in terms of the end result, which is the destruction of non-conformist anti-imperialist regimes, the application by itself of Sharp's subversive technology is not all its cracked up to be. It is just a component of a larger menu of offense mechanisms which are used in concerted fashion to achieve the overthrow or implosion of a recalcitrant government. Without ample supplies of Soros cash to fuel the enthusiasm (and the avarice) of Sharp's street infantry, international media satanization and isolation of the targeted country's leadership, financial and economic destabilization and pressure brought about from abroad, as well as patient long-term intelligence recruitment and corruption of key domestic figures and institutions well in advance of the official launching of the "color revolution," little would have been accomplished just by following Sharp's supposedly brilliant strategic injunctions.

Without state sponsorship, Gene Sharp's "Albert Einstein Institute" and its inspired teachings would have gotten exactly nowhere.

Sharp is a fraud. His vaunted political action manuals have turned out to be not a new or independent instrument of political action, but in retrospect just another illusionist propaganda operation to provide cover and serve as a distraction for all the classical methods of imperialist intervention.

Soros Disruption: American-Style https://www.strategic-culture.org/news/2016/03/20/soros-disruption-american-style/ Sun, 20 Mar 2016 10:00:00 +0000 https://strategic-culture.lo/news/2016/03/20/soros-disruption-american-style/ Eastern Europeans and Arabs are all-too-familiar with the political street hooliganism sponsored by global «provocateur» George Soros and his minions. Lately, middle-class Americans have had a taste of the type of violent protest provocations during the current US presidential campaign that have previously been visited upon governments from Macedonia and Moldova to Syria and Libya.

Recently, Donald Trump campaign rallies have seen highly-coordinated and well-planned political demonstrations in Chicago, Cleveland, St. Louis, Dayton, and other cities. The rallies were disrupted by highly-coordinated and well-planned protesters waving freshly-printed protest signs before awaiting television cameras. Such «rent-a-mob» actions are trademark signs of the involvement of George Soros and the «godfather» of political street violence, Gene Sharp, in disrupting the normal political process.

One of the favored methods proposed by Sharp and embraced by Soros-financed groups is the taunting of individuals. Sharp’s advice to taunt speakers is being played out in the US presidential campaign: «instead of predominantly silent and dignified behavior… people may mock and insult officials, either at a certain place or by following them for a period». Sharp suggests that taunting individuals, such as presidential candidates, be combined with a refusal to disperse when either asked or ordered to do so. Sharp claims that these methods are «non-violent». However, when the US Secret Service, charged with protecting presidential candidates from assassination or bodily harm, order protesters to leave a campaign venue and there is a subsequent refusal to do so, violence is a certainty.

Soros and Sharp honed their street revolution tactics on the streets of Belgrade in the Bulldozer Revolution that overthrew Serbian president Slobodan Milosevic on October 5, 2000. Two Soros-financed and Sharp-inspired groups, OTPOR! and the Center for Applied Nonviolent Action and Strategies (CANVAS), as well as their leader Srdja Popovic, a so-called «pro-democracy» agitator, have all been unmasked as US intelligence assets. Popovic has received funding from the CIA-linked US Institute of Peace, a creation of neo-conservatives to advance the type of undemocratic political street disruptions first seen in Serbia and that soon expanded to Ukraine, Georgia, Egypt, Venezuela, Russia, Macedonia, and other countries. Today, Soros-inspired political violence has targeted Trump rallies across the United States.

Popovic first began to infiltrate American politics by ostensibly supporting the Occupy Wall Street movement. As his ties to the CIA and Goldman Sachs later showed, his intent and that of his financiers were to derail the anti-capitalist popular movement.

Several veteran «agents provocateurs» of the Occupy Wall Street movement who are now part of the Bernie Sanders presidential campaign have been enlisted by groups like Unbound Philanthropy, an immigrant rights group, to disrupt Trump rallies. Together with the Soros-financed group Black Lives Matter, these professional street hooligans have carefully, and in compliance with the Sharp model, staged their demonstrations to achieve maximum media coverage while achieving the maximum level of disruption to the primary election process.

Unbound Philanthropy is funded by Obama's deep-pocketed friend and frequent vacation host in Hawaii, William Reeves, a former JP Morgan executive who now heads up BlueCrest Capital. In some cases, the political protesters masquerade as Trump supporters by wearing pro-Trump shirts and hats in order to gain access to Trump campaign venues. This methodology of disruption employs another Sharp tactic, that of using false identities. Coupled with the tactic of «non-violent harassment» of individuals, the use of employing false identities to gain admittance to Trump rallies, followed by coordinated protests in the form of placard-waving «stand-ins», are textbook examples of Sharp tactics being employed with the financial support of Soros and his gang, which includes Reeves and pro-immigration Hispanic groups and Black Lives Matter. Many of the anti-Trump street actions are coordinated by MoveOn.org, another group financed principally by Soros and the Hyatt Hotels’ Pritzker family of Chicago. One member of the Pritzker family, Penny Pritzker, serves as the Secretary of Commerce in the Obama administration.

MoveOn.org, which has endorsed Sanders, is actually using its protests at Trump rallies as a fundraising gimmick. It promises to disrupt future Trump campaign rallies and it will use every weapon in the Sharp/Soros handbook.

Another Sharp/Soros tactic employed against Trump is the «speak-in». During a Trump campaign appearance in Dayton, a pro-Bernie Sanders protester jumped a barrier and rushed the stage in an attempt to grab the microphone from Trump. The Secret Service tackled the protester who was arrested by police. The protester previously took part in a 2015 protest at Wright State University in Dayton where he dragged a US flag on the ground. Destruction of property, including US flags, is another hallmark disruption tactic proposed by Sharp.

The Sharp definition of a «speak-in» is a «special form of nonviolent intervention… when actionists interrupt a meeting… or other gathering for the purpose of expressing viewpoints on issues which may or may not be related directly to the occasion». Soros classifies the action as «social intervention», with «psychological and physical aspects». Regardless of Sharp’s definition of such actions as «nonviolent», the Secret Service does not take likely anyone lunging at a presidential candidate, especially after the assassination of candidate Robert F. Kennedy in Los Angeles in 1968 and the shooting and attempted assassination of candidate George Wallace in 1972. Soros’s operatives are dangerously playing with fire by bringing such violence-tinged street protest tactics to the American presidential political scene.

The stench of Popovic and Soros in the street operations against Trump, who has railed against Wall Street’s «free trade agreements» and neo-conservative «wars of choice», can be seen in the links between the street protest groups and corporate giants like Goldman Sachs.

Popovic and his CANVAS non-governmental organization (NGO) has received funding from a former Goldman Sachs executive named Muneer Satter.

Satter happened to work at Goldman Sachs with fellow corporate executive Heidi Cruz, the wife of Trump's opponent for the Republican presidential nomination, Senator Ted Cruz of Texas. Although Satter retired from Goldman Sachs in 2012 he continues to serve as vice chairman of the Goldman Sachs Foundation. In 2012, the year that Satter retired from Goldman Sachs, the firm loaned more than $1 million to Cruz's Texas US Senate campaign.

Satter also happens to be close to both President Barack Obama and anti-Trump GOP operative Karl Rove. Satter has donated to both Obama and Rove's Crossroads political action committee. Satter was also the national finance co-chair of Mitt Romney's 2008 and 2012 presidential campaigns.

This year, Satter joined the Senator Marco Rubio campaign as Illinois Finance Committee co-chairman. Such background players, Heidi Cruz and her Goldman Sachs friend Satter, as well as Rove, Romney, Reeves, Soros, the Pritzkers, and Popovic – a Central Intelligence Agency-linked foreign interloper in the United States political system – are the actual movers and shakers behind America’s presidential election. Their jobs and those of other deep-pocketed political financiers like Paul Singer, Haim Saban, Sheldon Adelson, Michael Bloomberg, Sam Zell, and Norman Braman, are to ensure that no «unfiltered outsiders» ever become the President of the United States. These and other wealthy backroom political maestros owe their undemocratic but massive political influence to insider politicians residing at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington. They will do everything in their power to prevent an «unfiltered» candidate from becoming the next American president.

Migrant Invasion of Europe from Same U.S. Policy Cauldron as «Color Revolutions» https://www.strategic-culture.org/news/2015/11/06/migrant-invasion-europe-from-same-us-policy-cauldron-color-revolutions/ Thu, 05 Nov 2015 20:00:01 +0000 https://strategic-culture.lo/news/2015/11/06/migrant-invasion-europe-from-same-us-policy-cauldron-color-revolutions/ The same U.S. policy cauldron, centered in the academia centers of the Boston region and which provided the template for «color revolutions» in eastern Europe and the Middle East, is also responsible for the current «weapon of mass migration» chaos sweeping throughout Europe.

Although sometimes it appears to many observers around the world that U.S. foreign policy is being picked out of a hat by a circus magician, in fact, many seemingly senseless U.S. policies are deeply-rooted in government-sponsored policy documents, white papers, and books.

Although German Chancellor Angela Merkel is rightly receiving the major blame for opening the borders of Europe to a potential influx of well over 1.5 million mainly Muslim migrants from Asia and Africa, the actual policy of using refugees as a «weapon of mass migration» originates with an adviser to the U.S. Defense Department, Ford Foundation, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

A book written in 2010 by Tufts University professor Kelly Greenhill not only gained the attention of Pentagon war and civil strife planners but also Merkel and German business tycoons intent on replenishing Germany’s aging population of laborers with new blood. The book, «Weapons of Mass Migration: «Forced Displacement, Coercion, and Foreign Policy,» became an overnight hit for Pentagon and U.S. Central Intelligence Agency planners always looking for new and innovative ways to bring about chaos for maximum profit and extension of the U.S. sphere of influence. Greenhill is connected to the highest echelons of the U.S. military-intelligence complex as chair of the Conflict, Security and Public Policy Working Group at Harvard Kennedy School of Government's Belfer Center; former Senate aide to John Kerry; and past adviser to the Pentagon.

Greenhill's book has become as much a template for creating social disorder through forced mass migration as retired University of Massachusetts professor Gene Sharp's «non-violent action» guidebooks on "themed revolutions" have become road maps for causing government coups through the use of social media and street action.

Unlike Sharp's methodology of relying on synthetic social and political movements created from outside a targeted country, which can have mixed results as seen in Egypt, Greenhill sees weapons of mass migration as the most effective method to achieve sure results. Greenhill’s research into coerced and forced migration as a «soft power» weapon on today’s complex battlefields dovetailed with similar interest expressed by the U.S. Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and the U.S. National Intelligence Council (NIC). The NIC helps formulate U.S. intelligence and national security policy. Decade-old proposals within the U.S. intelligence and military communities to use refugees as a soft power weapon soon caught the attention of Merkel and her closest supporters, including present German Defense Minister Ursula van der Leyen.

In a 2000 paper titled, «Growing Global Migration and its Implications for the US, the NIC foresaw the following demographic situation for Europe: «With low projected economic growth, Western Europe [will] have many challenges with current levels of immigrant flows and immigrant residents.  Assuming that Western European fertility remains at sub-replacement levels, countries can expect to experience a rapid shift in ethnic composition, particularly around urban areas».

The NIC’s solution? «It may be that Western European governments, and political systems, could meet with limited success in managing integration of resident Muslims». And in addition to integrating into European society Muslim workers with existing residency permits, the U.S. intelligence community’s future planners concluded that additional laborers would be required from Europe’s periphery, that is, the Middle East and North Africa: «Efforts to introduce gradations in immigrant citizenship status (as in Roman imperial efforts to give legal status to peoples from the periphery)».

And the NIC predicted how these new laborers would be compelled to leave their home countries for Europe: «Migrants will continue to be pushed from their origin countries by environmental stress, including climate change, by war, civil conflict and crime, and by ethnic rivalries and discrimination.  Survival will motivate many to move, despite marginalization of refugees in destination countries». The NIC realized that civil conflict and ethnic rivalries could only come about in the targeted nations by implementing Sharp’s «non-violent» street action and «themed revolutions». Hence, the «Arab Spring» concocted revolutions against the leaders of Libya, Egypt, Tunisia, Yemen, and Syria resulted in the biggest refugee problem to hit Europe since the end of World War II.

And who is actually financing the mass migrations to Europe from countries like Turkey, Syria, Iraq, and Libya?» There are a number of press reports in Europe that the stampede by mainly young Muslim male refugees armed with new smart phones is being coordinated by NGOs financed by global hedge fund tycoon George Soros.

The population transferal conspiracy by the Western elites has turned out to be a disaster for the migrant receiving countries of Europe as well as for legitimate refugees who have died in unseaworthy boats trying to reach Europe.

At a camp in Leipzig, a group of radical Afghans attacked another group of secular Syrians, resulting in a number of injuries. Rapes of migrant women in the camps and Germans in nearby neighborhoods outside the migrant camps have skyrocketed. Many German women are now avoiding leaving their homes and walking alone out of fear of rape from their new foreign "neighbors."

There is also evidence that the massive flow of Muslim refugees from Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan into countries like Slovenia, Croatia, Austria, Hungary, and Serbia is being joined by Muslim citizens of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, and Albania. The breakdown of European Union internal borders has resulted in anyone hoping to land on the social welfare rolls of Germany and Austria deciding to join the parade of migrants out of the Balkans.

In terms of public health, the arriving migrants have created a nightmare situation. There are reports of migrants defecating in German and Austrian parks and urinating on streets creating a health crisis and horrible stench in some neighborhoods. Miran Vuk, the mayor of Zavrc in Slovenia, complained that migrants temporarily housed in his city's newly-renovated sports stadium, conducted a mass defecation on the field, forcing its closure.

German hospitals have also been swamped with migrant poisoning cases. Some Syrian migrants mistook local German poisonous «death cap» mushroom for an edible variety, called the bearded Amanita, found in their native Syria. German medical authorities even contemplated advancing to the top of a liver donor list a 16-year old Syrian boy who required a liver transplant from eating the poisonous mushrooms. Although the Syrian teen died, another Syrian who ate death cap mushrooms was placed at the top of the liver donor list, thus denying a German citizen a needed liver transplant.

The "phony" left in Germany has been at the forefront of private property confiscation in order to accommodate homeless migrants from the Middle East. The Hamburg Social Democrats (CDU), Greens, and Left Party have joined Merkel supporters in passing a bill in the Hamburg legislature that would legalize the confiscation of vacant businesses in Hamburg for the purpose of housing migrants. Only anti-Merkel Christian Democrats, Free Democrats (FDP), and the Alternative for Germany (AfD) blocked a second reading of the property confiscation measure in Hamburg. The faux left in Germany, which takes its orders from the likes of Soros and NATO-financed political provocateurs in the NGO community, supports Merkel's weapon of mass migration policy while her Bavarian sister party, the Christian Social Union, has joined Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and the increasingly popular Austrian Freedom Party leader Heinz-Christian Strache in calling for the migrant invasion of Europe to be stopped immediately.

Germans and Austrians who voice opposition to Merkel’s open-door migrant policy face criminal charges of advancing «neo-Nazi» ideology. However, Germans and Austrians would rather face prison time and steep fines rather than see their villages, towns, and cities being turned into future killing and decapitation centers for the «Islamic Caliphate’s western provinces».

Another Attempt to Organize «Orange Revolution» in Ecuador https://www.strategic-culture.org/news/2015/07/09/another-attempt-organize-orange-revolution-ecuador/ Thu, 09 Jul 2015 04:00:03 +0000 https://strategic-culture.lo/news/2015/07/09/another-attempt-organize-orange-revolution-ecuador/ Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa is blowing the whistle. The country may face another coup attempt. There is solid ground to support this allegation. In his March weekly address to the people the President said the protests in Ecuador were staged by enemies of «citizens’ revolution»as the opposition was implementing the strategy of attrition.

According to him, the parties and organizations funded by international structures are subject to the influence of the US Central Intelligence Agency which does its best to create hotbeds of chaos and violence and hinder the creative activities of government. Talking to people, Correa often gives details on the policy of «soft regime change» practiced by Washington in Latin America. According to President, there is a five-phased plan to destabilize Ecuador.

First: public brainwashing (ablandamiento) will be launched by media outlets acting as informal opposition political parties’ mouthpieces. Their mission will be to incite public discontent and then point a finger at the government as the main culprit.

Second: the opposition will try to discredit the government as illegal and acting against the interests of people. To convince people they will launch an intensive propaganda campaign accompanied by thousands of biased publications, dissemination of fake analytical documents and spreading information allegedly received from «reliable» sources. They will also use social networks.

Third: the anti-government forces will heat up street protests by staging manifestations. It does not matter how many protesters will hit the streets. The puppet media outlets will highlight the events as instructed to convince the world that Ecuador is a conflict-torn country.

Fourth: the opposition will use different non-violent methods recommended by Gene Sharp to bring the government down. That is something they are trying to do in Venezuela and Argentina.

Fifth: the opposition will strike at the pillars of power. It will seize government buildings, provoke street unrests, incite discontent among the military etc. The CIA knows how to do it.

It will all be done to make the President go.

Rafael Correa does not make a secret of the fact that he has to counter such hostile actions daily. No matter that, the «citizens’ revolution» has many more supporters than the opposition movement. Correa warned the plotters that any attempts to stage a «color revolution» would be rebuffed. At the same time, he offered a dialogue on burning issues. Rafael Correa is not prone to take unilateral actions. All significant decisions are taken after referendums and nation-wide consultations. This time the government did not apply enough efforts to explain the new tax that President Rafael Correa presented to the National Assembly (with government party majority), which aimed to levy new taxes on inheritances and surplus value. It was mistaken believing that the opposition could not use it as a pretext for protests because the new measures affected only two percent of population.

The opposition constantly complains about censorship on the part of government, but this time the potential of tycoons who control media was underestimated. Unexpectedly many representatives of middle class took part in the protests that lasted for two weeks under the slogans Ecuador is not Venezuela. There were calls for putting an end to social reforms and resignation of Correa. To normalize the situation the President decided to suspend the reforms and hold consultations with the leaders of opposition. He wanted to establish peace before the visit of Pope Francis. The opposition ignored the President’s appeal thinking that he wanted to gain time. The protests continued. The opposition serves the interests of tycoon clans. Incited by right wing media, it is hardly expected to behave differently. In view of rising tensions President Correa and the government decided on June 25 to declare the national dialogue on equity and social justice. The dialogue is supposed to last about three months to discuss what reforms the country needs to meet the aspirations of the majority of Ecuadorians. The mission is to create a society where the common good prevails over personal interests. To fight inequality and preserve peace in the country – these are the goals of the policy adopted by Correa’s government.

The dialogue was actually refused by opposition. In early June protests took place in Quito,Guayaquil, Cuenca and other cities accompanied by violence and mass disorder. Dozens of stool-pigeons incited tensions. There were people under the influence of drugs and alcohol, some groups of protesters were armed with metal bars, spades and brass-knuckles. Police had difficulty holding the protesters back as they tried to make their way to the presidential Carondelet Palace. No matter all the provocations, there was no excessive use of force against demonstrators while at least a dozen of policemen were taken to hospital gravely wounded. The supporters of Rafael Correa concentrated near the presidential palace creating a live wall on the way of provocateurs. Addressing people from the balcony, Correa warned about the plans of opposition leaders who wanted to destabilize the country organizing a march on Quito.

According to the President, he was ready to defend the «citizens’ revolution» without resorting to violence and lead the nation to peace and democracy. Correa confirmed his decision to run for president in 2017. He offered the opposition to hold a referendum and see if people trusted him. He is still popular, that’s why they want to topple him with the help of «color revolutions» and «maidans» instead of popular vote. Under the circumstances, the US Central Intelligence Agency and the National Security Agency have intensified their activities. Mario Pazmiño, former head of military intelligence, and retired Colonel César Carrión are more frequently mentioned as the people who serve as liaison officers between radical opposition and US special services.

Ecuadorian law enforcement agencies report that the opposition plans include closing the borders and blocking airports in Quito and Guayaquil. Minister of the Interior José Serrano said the opposition exacerbated the situation on purpose to prevent the Pope from visiting the country. It’s doubtful that the leaders of opposition in a Catholic country could make such plans on their own. No doubt, the operation had been planned and prepared by the Central Intelligence Agency. The plans were frustrated. Pope Francis said he never planned to suspend the visit. The mayors of Quito, Guayaquil and the governor of Azuay province are well-known leaders of opposition. They said the confrontation will start again right after the Pope’s visit is over on July 8. Powerful tycoons, banks, Chevron’ HUMINT, the fifth column within power agencies, venal leaders of trade unions, Indians and students’ organizations are involved in the plot. Many non-governmental organizations have intensified activities. The US embassy in Quito works without breaks to implement the Ecuadorian Maidan scenario.

Coup and Anti-Coup. Gene Sharp Amended https://www.strategic-culture.org/news/2014/03/01/coup-and-anti-coup-gene-sharp-amended/ Fri, 28 Feb 2014 20:35:09 +0000 https://strategic-culture.lo/news/2014/03/01/coup-and-anti-coup-gene-sharp-amended/ In the Coup in Kiev piece published by Antiwar.com on February 24, Justin Raymondo makes no bones about it saying that the events in Ukraine were nothing else but an outright coup d’état «pure and simple, the violent overthrow of a duly elected official», as he puts it. The author describes it as an overthrow of pro-Nazi and anti-Russian nature, just another regime change in the line of «color revolutions» taking place in the post-Soviet space. According to Justin Raymondo, the coup bringing putschists to power is being hailed not only by «that champion of «democracy», the United States government, but also by our clearly biased media, which is using this as «a bludgeon to beat the hated Vladimir Putin»

The author believes Americans would get a better understanding of the Ukrainian events if they realize that, «the role of the United States government in this affair is utterly pernicious. While funding and encouraging the Ukrainian people to rise up against a gang of kleptocrats, Washington plots behind the scenes to install their own favored thieves in power»… According to Raymondo, the way the events unfold makes one believe that at this stage it’s just a beginning. With bitter irony he comments the recent statement by Susan Rice, the United States National Security Advisor, as she stressed that deploying Russian troops to Crimea «would be a grave mistake». The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs tactfully recommended Susan Rice to address her advices to the US President, while the American journalist leaves diplomacy aside saying bluntly that Susan Rice plays with fire reviving the old Cold War fears and raising «Russians are coming!» style hullabaloo to spook people. The author explains that Russians don’t need to go anywhere; Sebastopol is the site of the Russian fleet stationed at Sevastopol, as well as the heart of the Russian-speaking population living there since ancient times. As Kiev burned, Crimeans rallied in their tens of thousands calling for unity with Russia. Quite unexpectedly the American author arrives at the conclusion that Susan Rice is completely wrong because «the present borders of Ukraine no more represent a real nation than do the borders of African states set by nineteenth century European colonialists».

Not that unexpectedly though. Whatever it is, American politicians never known for harboring any pro-Russia sympathies before have started to cite Russia Today reports. Ron Paul is a politician often characterized as the «intellectual godfather» of the Tea Party movement. He sought the presidency of the United States a number of times. The website of the Institute for Peace and Prosperity, the think tank he founded and chairs, has posted the interview that professor Mark Almond of Oxford University granted Russia Today. The caption reads 'Whole of Ukraine held hostage by a small group of radicals'. According to Almond, the violence in Ukraine, incited by the West, is something more than just another orange revolution boiling down to revision of election results. This time it’s about «a clean sweep». Mr. Almond believes the situation in Ukraine is similar to the process taking place in Syria. He says, «One of the problems of this crisis is that there isn't a constitutional way out because, in fact, about half of the country, the Western third of the country at least, is already controlled by these very radical groups who suppress any opposition».

On February 24 and February 27 the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) made statements regarding the events in Ukraine. It is clearly stated that the agreement on settlement of the crisis in Ukraine of the 21 February, signed by President of Ukraine Yanukovych and opposition leaders Vitaly Klitschko, Arseniy Yatsenyuk and Oleh Tyahnybok, is not observed despite the fact that its signature was certified by Foreign Ministers of Germany, Poland and France, as well as the United States, the European Union and other international bodies that welcomed this document. The February 24 MFA statement notes, «We are deeply concerned about the actions in the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada in terms of their legitimacy. Actually referring to the «revolutionary appropriateness» only, they are stamping «decisions» and «laws», including those aimed at deprivation of humanitarian rights of Russians and other national minorities living in Ukraine. There are calls to prohibition the Russian language almost fully, lustration, liquidation of parties and organizations, closing of undesirable mass media, removal of restrictions for propaganda of Neo-Nazi ideology».

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said the Ukraine’s new government is not legitimate. According to him, «Some of our foreign, western partners think otherwise, considering them to be legitimate authorities. I do not know which constitution, which laws, they were reading, but it seems to me it is an aberration of perception when something that is essentially the result of a mutiny is called legitimate».

I open From Dictatorship to Democracy, a Conceptual Framework for Liberation by Gene Sharp, the book-length essay translated into dozens of languages. It is devoted to the theory of color revolutions. Gene Sharp has gained fame. His instructions on non-violent insurgency have been followed in many coups staged across the globe to meet the interests of the «only superpower». But this time Gene Sharp does not help me to better understand what is happening in Ukraine now. Unexpectedly his, much less popular publication, called The Anti-Coup, happens to be just the thing. It was written together with Bruce Jenkins and contains a host of instructions on measures civil society can take to resist illegal power when a coup has already taken place. Isn’t it the kind of resistance we’re witnessing in Sebastopol, Crimea and the south-eastern part of Ukraine?

According to Gene Sharp, «A coup d'état is a rapid seizure of physical and political control of the state apparatus by illegal action of a conspiratorial group backed by the threat or use of violence. The members of the previous government are deposed against their will. Initially the coup group rapidly occupies the centers of command, decision-making, and administration, replacing the previous chief executive and top officials with persons (military or civilian) of their choices». That is exactly what is happening in Ukraine. The steps taken by incumbent Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, which are supported by Pravy Sector, a new version of «White Al Qaeda», perfectly fit the scenario described by Gene Sharp.

The coup manual is not so big, its length is only 40 pages, but it gives a clue as to how to proceed and effectively resist a coup: never give up and unmask the usurpers as illegitimate imposters. As Sharp puts it, «Immediately after the coup is started, the putschists require legitimacy, that is, acceptance of their moral and political right, or authority, to rule». That’s why, «The first basic principle of anti-coup defense is therefore to deny legitimacy to the putschists». The author notes, that, «The putschists also require that the civilian leaders and population be supportive, confused, or just passive. The putschists additionally require the cooperation of specialists and advisors, bureaucrats and civil servants, administrators and judges in order to consolidate their control over the society». Therefore, «The second basic principle of anti-coup defense is to resist the putschists with noncooperation and defiance». Sharp believes that, «If both legitimacy and cooperation are denied, the putsch may die of political starvation». Thus the society will revive the chances for return to democracy.

Closing the Gene Sharp’s book I start to think about how life makes amendments to what the classic has written in his works. These days the parliament of Ukraine’s Autonomous Republic of Crimea has found a way out of the crisis spread across the nation. A referendum on «improving the status of autonomy and expanding its powers» slated for May 25, 2014 is the step in this direction. It’s something completely different from an anti-coup. Today Crimea is facing the powerful rise of people’s self-consciousness. Those who take part in the process cherish a hope that the trend would make possible the return to democracy.

Greenbacks for blue buckets: USAID support for instability in Russia https://www.strategic-culture.org/news/2014/01/13/greenbacks-blue-buckets-usaid-support-instability-russia/ Sun, 12 Jan 2014 20:00:01 +0000 https://strategic-culture.lo/news/2014/01/13/greenbacks-blue-buckets-usaid-support-instability-russia/

One «themed revolution», for which the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and its allied operatives of the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and the George Soros Open Society Institute have become so infamous, went virtually unnoticed in the English language Western media.

In 2010, anti-Russian government provocateurs, financed by Western non-governmental organizations (NGOs), staged a number of protests featuring plastic blue buckets. The buckets were meant to symbolize the portable flashing blue lights, known in Russian as migalki, used atop many vehicles for Russian VIPs, including government officials and private businessmen.

The themed blue bucket protests were directly linked to the «pro-democracy» activities of USAID in Russia. American-backed provocateurs began placing blue buckets on top of their cars to mock the use of blue lights by officials. In response, three parties represented in the State Duma, United Russia, A Just Russia, and the Liberal Democratic Party, proposed a bill to crack down on the use of the blue buckets by protesters who were intent on causing traffic problems, sometimes resulting in vehicle accidents.

U.S. NGO support for the «blue bucket» revolution preceded by a year the nomination by President Barack Obama of anti-Russian activist Michael McFaul as the U.S. ambassador to Russia. McFaul began his tenure in Moscow by opening up the U.S. embassy to all sorts of anti-Russian political activists, provocateurs, and troublemakers.

These political provocateurs, which include People’s Freedom Party leader political blogger Aleksey Navalny, «Left Front» Sergey Udaltsov, chess celebrity Garry Kasparov, Russian «cover girl» Ksenia Sobchak, «Solidarity» co-leader Ilya Yashin, Boris Nemtsov, neo-fascist National Bolshevik Party leader Eduard Limonov, Yabloko Party leader Sergey Mitrokhin, and Lev Ponomarev were all well-schooled in the use of various devices and contrivances to gain media attention for their political causes and protests.

Themed street protests were used by Gene-Sharp-trained activists in a number of CIA- and Soros-advanced political operations. The first such group to successfully oust a government was OTPOR, which led protests that ejected Slobodan Milosevic as president of Serbia. Other groups backed by U.S.-trained activists included Kmara in Georgia, Pora in Ukraine, KelKel in Kyrgyzstan, and Zubr in Belarus.

The art of using symbols such as the clenched fist and devices like blue buckets was developed by civil disobedience «guru» Gene Sharp of the Albert Einstein Institution and Harvard. Sharp’s work on «non-violent» actions to bring down governments was adopted by the CIA to foment rebellions in countries in the post-Soviet and Soviet bloc space. Sharp denies his work is connected to U.S. intelligence, however, it has been funded by the largest funding pools used by the CIA for contract work by academia. Sharp has been directly funded by the RAND Corporation, Ford Foundation, and NED. His work also received funding from the International Republican Institute, an arm of the U.S. Republican Party.

Sharp’s call for cultural, religious, and historical icons to be ridiculed in small and large mass protests have often led to violent responses, thus driving a stake through Sharp’s contention that his blueprint for political change is «non-violent.»

McFaul was recruited from the right-wing, neo-conservative Hoover Institution at Stanford University to serve as Obama’s envoy to Russia. McFaul served on the boards of a number of Cold War-oriented NGOs, including Freedom House, the Soros-linked Eurasia Foundation, and the USAID-funded NED.

The coordinator of the «Society of Blue Buckets» was Peter Shkumatov. The activities of the Shkumatov and his traffic disruptors included some of McFaul’s frequent embassy guests, notably Nemtsov and Udaltsov.

One Blue Bucket protester was shown wearing an Obama t-shirt in a video uploaded to YouTube on May 5, 2010. The video was produced by Nikita Tatarsky for the CIA- and Soros-controlled Russian service of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. Other Blue Bucket protesters confused police by placing blue buckets on top of their vehicles, resulting a traffic snarls in downtown Moscow. If it were discovered that the Russian embassy in Washington organized protesters to place official-looking devices on their vehicles there would be two immediate reactions: criminal charges for impersonating law enforcement officers and a strong diplomatic protest with the Russian government.

It was not until September 2012, over two years after USAID was linked to the Blue Buckets, that President Vladimir Putin ordered USAID out of Russia. Some 57 NGOs in Russia were said to receive official financial support from USAID. That number did not count the unofficial support rendered by USAID to other groups, some with close links to terrorist groups in the Russian Caucasus region, particularly Chechnya and Dagestan.

In keeping with Sharp’s protest group template, the Society of Blue Buckets was divided into wings of «doves» and «hawks» all under an official organization with an official website called ru-verderko.ru, which translates to English as «ru-pail.ru.» By not calling the website «blue bucket», the provocateurs left open the possibility of changing their target to other migalki colors, including the red used for emergency and police vehicles in the event the protesters decided to raise the stakes in their anti-government activities.

The Blue Bucket organization was careful to disseminate the information that it would be supported by dues and donations so that it would not be connected to McFaul and the U.S. embassy. However, a number of Russian disruptive organizations received «donations» from entities linked directly to Soros, USAID, and NED. The «Blue Buckets» registered with the Russian government as a public organization by paying the standard fee of 35,000 rubles, a little over $US 1000.

Blue Bucket protesters were witnessed walking across official vehicles with «migalki» lights even on Red Square. Comparatively, if protesters jumped on US Secret Service vehicles at the White House, there would be a very good chance they would be shot dead by law enforcement. Russian authorities displayed relative restraint in dealing with the Blue Buckets.

The anti-Christian and anti-Muslim FEMEN group, which was established by American Zionist financiers in Ukraine, also took up the Blue Bucket cause. Topless FEMEN protesters were seen at various Blue Bucket protests around Moscow making obscene gestures with blue buckets.

The use of cheap trinkets like blue buckets in Russia and white clothing and eye coverings in China are examples of the subterfuge engaged in by the Sharp / Soros / NED public opinion manipulators. In Indonesia, it was the cheap rubber and plastic sandal that became the symbol of an aborted popular movement against the government. In 2012, a 15-year old bot was sentenced to a five-year prison sentence for allegedly stealing the old worn-out sandals of a police officer that were lying outside a police station in Palu in central Sulawesi. The sentence resulted in a massive protest in which people left sandals and flip-flops outside of police stations across Indonesia. The movement, which was linked to USAID, Soros, and NED manipulators, never got off the ground and President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was not driven from office.

While the democracy manipulators brag about their successes, they never want to write or talk about their failures, of which there are many. The Blue Bucket, White, Sandal, Lotus, Jasmine, Cedar, Green, and Orange Revolution II capers in Russia, China, Indonesia, Egypt, Tunisia, Lebanon, Iran, and Ukraine, respectively, were all miserable failures…

As long as Obama, Soros, McFaul and their ilk continue to try to set the clock back to the Cold War, their paid agent provocateurs will continue to suffer failure after failure until their «bag of tricks», blue buckets, white sheets, sandals, topless tramps, and otherwise, are no longer worthy of the public’s attention…

Ukraine: NATO’s Eastern Prize https://www.strategic-culture.org/news/2013/12/16/ukraine-nato-eastern-prize/ Sun, 15 Dec 2013 20:00:03 +0000 https://strategic-culture.lo/news/2013/12/16/ukraine-nato-eastern-prize/ Ever since the democracy manipulation efforts of international hedge fund brigand George Soros were joined with the artificial street revolution tactics of CIA tactician Gene Sharp to form the core strategy of the U.S. neo-conservative goal of imposing a «New American Century» on the entire world, Ukraine has served as the prize of America’s interventionist foreign policy. And the neocons are still alive and active as ever inside Secretary of State John Kerry's State Department.

In the wake of what has been called the «Orange Revolution II» in Ukraine, Kerry's Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, Victoria Nuland, who previously served as Hillary Clinton's State Department mouthpiece, threatened sanctions against Ukraine’s government led by President Viktor Yanukovych. Gazing over protesters in central Kyiv from his hotel window, Arizona’s fanatical Republican Senator John McCain was licking his chops over the prospect of an anti-Russian Ukraine coming into being. McCain is a Cold War throwback and someone who remains mentally-unbalanced between flashbacks from a prisoner of war cell in Hanoi and to present-day reality.

Ukraine, which resisted efforts by the European Union to integrate it into Europe's banker-led federation of austerity and poverty, came into the EU's cross hairs after it abandoned an «Association Agreement» pact with the EU.  Instead, Kyiv opted for a more lucrative economic union with Russia. That move triggered off a mass street uprising in Kyiv's Maidan (Independence) Square that demanded the resignation of Ukraine's democratically-elected President and government.

The connections between the Kyiv uprising and the EU outside manipulators are so apparent, the Kyiv square that has become the «Tahrir Square» of Ukraine is called «Euromaidan.» The initial Tahrir Square uprising in Cairo, which overthrew Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, was partly manipulated by Soros-financed and Sharp-influenced street demonstrators who took their cues from professional political agitators hastily flown into Egypt from the United States and Europe.

The latest professionally-agitated spectacle in Kyiv’s was spearheaded by the same Soros/Sharp/National Endowment for Democracy/CIA hydra that saw the overthrow of Ukraine's government in 2004 in the so-called Orange Revolution. This time, not only is Ukrainian President Yanukovych, but ultimately Russian President Vladimir Putin, are the targets…

Nuland, who is married to the bloody-handed neocon archangel Robert Kagan, handed out snacks to protesters on Maidan Square. Imagine the reaction of the United States had a second-tier official of either the Russian or Chinese foreign ministry handed out food to Occupy Wall Street protesters in Washington and urged them to overthrow, by force if necessary, President Obama. Yet, that is exactly the scenario Nuland engaged in by supporting protesters in Maidan. Furthermore, she reprimanded Yanokovych for the heavy security presence in Maidan. Nuland and Kerry, who also upbraided Yanukovych, forgot the acts of police brutality committed by U.S. cops against occupy protesters, as well as a plan by the FBI to use snipers to assassinate the leaders of the group.

And Nuland and Kerry were very quiet when the Turkish government set loose riot police on peaceful protesters in Taksim Square in Istanbul earlier this year. After all, Turkey is a member of NATO and Ukraine, for the time being, is not.

For Gene Sharp and his two NGO «babies,» OTPOR and the Center for Applied Nonviolent Action and Strategies (CANVAS), vanguard organizations for organizing «rent-a-riot» anti-government protests around the globe, only nations resistant to the «New World Order» designs of Wall Street and the Pentagon are fair game for receiving cash, pamphlets, i-Pads and i-Phones, snacks, «themed revolution» placards and banners, restored national flags from times past, and other propaganda support. Recently, it was discovered, through leaked emails, that CANVAS founder Srdja Popovic was collaborating with the CIA- and Pentagon-linked intelligence firm STRATFOR, founded by George Friedman, whose ties to the U.S. and Israeli military-intelligence establishments are well known.

The «Orange Revolution II» in Kyiv has also received favorable press in central and eastern Europe and other parts of the world thanks to the auspices of various Soros press entities, including the Center for Advanced Media in Prague, a contrivance of the Media Development Loan Fund, a project of Soros' Open Society Institute.

And as with all fake «themed» revolutions, an «embattled martyr» is needed to rally the «rent-a-mob» to action. For the Ukrainian demonstrator, the «Maiden of Maidan» is Yulia Tymoshenko, the former Prime Minister who was imprisoned for corruption. Tymoshenko, who is now held at a clinic in Kharkiv, has become the «Aung San Suu Kyi» of Ukraine. But for many Ukrainians, the former Prime Minister is a shameless attention seeker whose trademark braided hair coif is derided by many Ukrainians as a «bagel» on top of her head.

For Orange Revolution II, the new «heroes» are ex-boxer and UDAR opposition leader Vitali Klitschko and far-right nationalist Oleh Tyahnybok. Their playbooks are written in Soros boiler shops in Prague, London, Washington, and New York and not in Kyiv.

Too many eastern and central European political activists have been «taken in» by the phony «democracy movements» funded by Soros. Needless to say, Soros is not someone who should be a spokesperson, let alone a funder, of what is supposed to be pro-democracy and pro-labor causes. Soros began his sordid career in hedge funds (a combination of a betting parlor and a Ponzi scheme contrivance) in the late 1960s under Georges Coulon Karlweis, the vice chairman of Banque Privée Edmond Rothschild in Geneva, Switzerland.

In the late 1960s, Karlweis provided Rothschild funds to Soros's Quota and Quantum hedge funds. Karlweis was the grand master of global financial chicanery and shysterism, having been linked to schemes of Bernard Cornfeld's International Overseas Services (IOS), the firm that Robert Vesco looted before he went into fugitive status. Karlweis also had his fingerprints on the antics of Michael Milken, Drexel Burnham Lambert's junk bond racketeer.

Soros has set himself up as a deep-pocketed prophet for liberal causes, yet he has diminished true progressives by spreading his ill-gotten profits through various front organizations. Soros’s Open Society Institute has supported various pro-democracy front organizations but these groups serve the interests of shadowy global financial corporations, like the Blackstone Group.

Blackstone's former director was Lord Jacob Rothschild, Soros' old pal and financial colleague. Soros, through his bought-and-paid-for «progressive» media entities has managed to stifle any news that casts light on his own anti-democratic and anti-progressive activities in Europe and around the world.

In the first round of themed revolutions sponsored by Soros and his U.S. government collaborators and adhering to the Gene Sharp playbook, New World Order template governments were installed in Ukraine and Georgia. Headed by Viktor Yushchenko and Prime Minister Tymoshenko in Ukraine and Mikheil Saakashvili in Georgia, the pro-NATO and EU governments, installed amid a flurry of «pro-democracy» fanfare, soon descended into corrupt and nepotistic regimes. Tymoshenko and Saakashvili soon were associated with the mafia and corrupt business moguls. Tymoshenko's one-time business partner, former Ukrainian Prime Minister Pavlo Lazarenko, began serving a prison term in California for money laundering, corruption, and fraud. Meanwhile, Saakashvili became entangled with the mysterious «Golden Fleece» charity in Cyprus.

The neo-cons never recovered from the end of the Yushchenko-Tymoshenko regime because Soros and the themed revolution agitators had invested so much in the inserted government in anticipation of its NATO and EU membership. Yushchenko’s wife, Kateryna Chumachenko Yushchenko, served in the Ronald Reagan White House. Chumachenko also worked in the White House Public Liaison Office where she conducted outreach to various right-wing and anti-communist exile groups in the United States, including the other bastion of the neo-cons, the Heritage Foundation.

Now, «Responsibility to Protect» interventionists in the Obama administration are trying to turn back the calendar to 2004 and bring about another non-democratic ouster of an elected government in Ukraine.

Across Ukraine, Moldova, Russia, Belarus, Romania, and other countries of eastern and central Europe, the new generation of Soros agitators and provocateurs are trying to launch another series of «themed revolutions.» This time the goal is, once again, prying Ukraine away from Russia and into the EU and NATO.
