Buddhism has an interesting view of the 'self' and the 'soul'.
"If the word 'soul' refers to a non-bodily component in a person that can continue in some way after death, then Buddhism does not deny the existence of a soul.[4]
"In fact, persons are said to be characterized by an ever-evolving consciousness."
"Just as the body changes from moment to moment, so thoughts come and go; there is no permanent conscious substance that experiences these thoughts...
"When the body dies, the mental processes continue and are reborn in a new body.[4]
"Because the mental processes are constantly changing, the new being is neither exactly the same as, nor completely different from, the being that died.[9]
"Buddhism rejects the notion of a permanent self, but does not reject the notion of a self consisting of constantly changing physical and mental phenomena..[10]
"Early Buddhist scriptures describe an enlightened individual as someone whose changing self is highly developed."
Buddha did not say that 'the self' exists or does not exist.
Why?
He did not want us to 'grasp' or 'cling' to the idea of 'self' because that can cause suffering.
He did not want us to 'grasp' a or 'cling' to the idea of not having a 'self' because that can cause suffering.
The Buddha advised paying no attention to such questions as "Do I exist?"
"What distinguishes Jungian psychology is the idea that there are two centers of the personality.
"The ego is the center of consciousness, whereas the Self is the center of the total personality, which includes consciousness, the unconscious, and the ego.
"The Self is both the whole and the center. While the ego is a self-contained little center of the circle contained within the whole, the Self can be understood as the greater circle".[2]
Abraham Maslow (above) refers to "self-transcendence", which means "to experience, unite with and serve that which is beyond the individual self: the unity of all being."
"Self-transcendence is a personality trait associated with experiencing spiritual ideas[1] such as considering oneself a part of the universe."[2]
"Cloninger found that psychiatric patients tend to be lower in self-transcendence compared with adults in the general population.[2]
"However, low cooperativeness and self-directedness combined with high self-transcendence may result in openness to odd or unusual ideas and behaviours associated with distorted perceptions of reality."[4]
In the video below, psychologist Jonathan Haidt (above) speaks about 'self-transcendence'.
George Dunn responds after viewing Jonathan Haidt’s TED talk:
"Also, I’m not sure that what he describes is so much 'transcending' the ego as it is a vast expansion of it.
"Finally, I’m always wary when people start talking about the 'sacred,' having learned from Girard and others to associate the sacred with violence, oppression, and obfuscation.
"Altruism, as I understand it, doesn't have to depend on some 'sacred' merger of one's personality identity with the group.
"To the contrary, wouldn't genuine altruism be a matter of responding to the alterity (otherness) of the other person and recognizing her unique identity as a separate person, rather than simply responding to some identity that we both share?
"In any case, Haidt's account of self-transcendence doesn't explain why we - and other animals - are sometimes willing to stick our necks out for others who are not members of our own group or even our own species.
"Maybe he would explain that sort of altruism as a 'bug,' rather than an adaptation. In any case, it seems to me that altruism can’t simply be reduced to the sort of vertical self-transcendence he describes."

With the support of many thinkers and writers and people, I 'married' the psyche - ology with the theo- logy and came to a most magical, mystical place of understanding.
I have been a Jungian for decades, as I searched for the God who Lives on, no matter the burnings and the bombings and beheadings of churches, books and religious by dehumanised spectres.
In the end, I realised that the Self is our God self-and is eternal. Zen, Buddhist, Taoist, Jung and some Christians and some Muslim mystics plus numerous others 'get' this.
Does not matter what name we apply.
It is the discipline we must practice: walking the talk.
For as long as it takes.
We are all imperfect, but as the Buddhist said in the marvellous film The Little Buddha: "We become our choices".
Really? First I've heard of it. Without actually saying you just made that up, it certainly looks like you... just made that up.
Otherwise, very impressed with the correct spelling of solipsism, but am curious to know how 'mental solipsism' differs from regular solipsism. Perhaps mental solipsism is where you think the self is all there is, but then having done so you don't tell anyone.

Anyone can call themselves Buddhist. On the surface, it is a safe and convenient belief system. To get rid of the ego and desire. One needs to seek the 4 noble truths on the eightfold path.
Once an adherent is on the path. There is always the danger of spiritual ego. This spiritual ego can be worse than the material one. For it starts to delude the adherent, that they sit on the right-hand side of god.
God may be found in anyone. For God is also love.
Filling ourselves with universal love and we may begin to see what it's all about?
It's okay to say God does not exist. For until we see God face to face, then God does not exist.
Still the love remains ... corny but true!!
For someone to say God does not exist, takes some courage. In the face of life. But it also shows the person is at least thinking about God and existence. God cannot be found in a telescope, rocket, or molecule. Higgs-bosun notwithstanding. Those are the pieces of the game and the rules. But not the game itself.
Those who say God exists, because others tell them. Are very sad people. For they say it without real proof. They trot it out like some sort of zombie. They can be filled with hate because they want the love, but cannot really see, or feel, it.
God is formless and has no religion. God is everywhere, yet nowhere. Except in our hearts. Beyond ego and desire.
God is love. Universal love and that's all you need.
"And the influence of The New Religion we all supposed to embrace is evidenced in the form of the U.N.'s Meditation Room with its block of Iron Ore."
and I always thought that the UN Declaration of Human Rights looked suspiciously similar to the Christ's Sermon on the Mount.
Seems a certain section of the human family, aka 'the chosen ones' have hijacked the good and the true and the beautiful of everyone else, and are calling 'it' their own.

A lot of these oligarchs are Buddhist. It doesn't keep them from doing evil. It just looks like mental solipsism to me.

Recently read the book Totalitaria. The author has his bias but he names them up front and writes well.
He states that Buddhism as we are taught it today was practically a dead philosophy/religion at the turn of the 20th century.
Then Blavatsky and Bailey got a handle on it and spun it seven ways from Sunday to create a sort of bastardized luciferian version of buddhism.
A kind of combination of Do what Thy Will and Don't sweat the small stuff.
A. Bailey's Lucis trust has special NGO status with the United Nations. Her Great Invocation is de riguer at various UN meetings.
And the influence of The New Religion we all supposed to embrace is evidenced in the form of the U.N.'s Meditation Room with its block of Iron Ore.

You have been tireless in your presentations for which I for one am grateful.
Take care and hope you will be back when you are good and ready.
