In 1992, General Colin Powell, chairman of the joint chiefs, "awarded the prize for his strategy essay competition at the National Defence University to Lieutenant Colonel Charles Dunlap for The Origins of the American Military Coup of 2012.

In September 2009, former White House speechwriter John L. Perry suggested that the U.S. Military, upholding its oath to defend the Constitution, could oust Obama.

Perry worked under the Democratic administrations of Lyndon Johnson and Jimmy Carter.

The Newsmax article refers to Obama's "trampling" on the Constitution, nationalization of American institutions, rising deficits, unemployment and taxes.

Perry says that moves towards a coup could be accelerated if Israel bombed Iran, causing a massive destabilization of the free world.
