Al-Zawahri - alQaeda's chief brains and strategist

1. Al-Qaida's chief brains and strategist is said to be Ayman al-Zawahri.

Around March 2008, Al-Zawahiri published a book on militant Islamic Web sites 'slamming his former radical colleagues in Egyptian prisons for disavowing armed struggle and turning their backs against violence.' (New book by top al-Qaida strategist rebuts jailed militants ...)

2. Some Islamists are thought to be manipulated by the CIA and its friends. Some are thought to be agents of the CIA and its friends.

According to an article entitled 'Islamic fundamentalist link to British Fascists' by Wayne Madsen and Umberto Pascali( Cached ):

"According to January 2000 U.S. Congressional testimony, al-Zawahiri was granted U.S. residence by the Immigration and Naturalization Service - something almost impossible for many legitimate immigrants to obtain...

"One of the centers of operation for al-Zawahiri was London, where one of his closest relatives resided? President Mubarak is believed to have referred to him when, after the Luxor massacre, he stated: 'There are people who carried out crimes and who were sentenced [in Egypt] and live on British soil.'"

According to nogw.com (Cached ), Ayman al Zawahiri fought for the CIA in Bosnia and his brother Zaiman al-Zawahiri fought for the CIA in Kosovo.

(Members of the Moroccan terror group Salafi Jihadi fought for the CIA in Afghanistan, Chechnya, Dagestan, Bosnia and Kosovo. USS Cole Bomber Jamal al-Badawi fought for the CIA in Bosnia. Al-Zawahiri is suspected of being an agent of the CIA.

3. Ayman al-Zawahiri was born into an aristocratic Egyptian family in 1951.

His father, Mohammed al-Zawahiri, was a pharmacologist and a professor.

The family was "not overly pious," (Wright, The Looming Tower, p. 34.)

4. While Ayman al-Zawahiri was still at school, the president of Egypt was Gamal Nasser.

According to an article at Cooperativeresearch ( Context of 'October 1970-1981: After Nasser’s death, Sadat brings ... ), the USA and UK (and the US and UK oil and bank industries) did not like Nasser’s nationalist policies. MI6 and the CIA began plans to assassinate Nasser.

Egypt's Islamist Muslim Brotherhood also wanted to topple Nasser. Nasser outlawed the Muslim Brotherhood, which he denounced as a tool of Britain.

The CIA provided support for the Muslim Brotherhood because of “the Brotherhood’s commendable capability to overthrow Nasser.” [Baer, 2003, pp. 99; Dreyfuss, 2005, pp. 101-108] Saudi Arabia, an ally of the United States, gave money and and sanctuary to Muslim Brotherhood militants. Israel also preferred Islamists to nationalists.

David Shipler, a former New York Times reporter, said that 'he was told by the military governor of the Gaza Strip, Brigadier General Yitzhak Segev, that the Israeli government had financed the Islamic movement to couteract the PLO and the communists.' 5. Reportedly, at the age of 14, al-Zawahiri joined the Muslim Brotherhood (Ayman al-Zawahiri - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia), suspected by some of being a tool of the CIA and MI6. (aangirfan: The use of the Muslim Brotherhood by MI6 and the CIA in ...)

6. Nasser died 'of a heart attack' in 1970.

Nasser was succeeded by Anwar Sadat, a former member of the Muslim Brotherhood. Sadat had 'a close working relationship' with the CIA and Henry Kissinger. Sadat used the Muslim Brotherhood against the nationalist Nasserites. (Context of 'October 1970-1981: After Nasser’s death, Sadat brings ...)

7. Reportedly, al-Zawahiri became a fan of the Sayyid Qutb, who was a secular (non-religious) reformer in the 1930s, but who apparently became an Islamist in the 1950s and 1960s.

At Cairo University, Al-Zawahiri studied behavior, psychology and pharmacology graduating in 1974. Following that he served three years as a surgeon in the Egyptian Army.

8. In 1981, President Anwar Sadat was assassinated. Possibly the CIA had fallen out with him.

"Joseph Trento, in his 2005 book, Prelude to Terror, interviewed former high-ranking CIA agents about this period in Egypt...

"Trento ... reports that Sadat's vice president Hosni Mubarak had been on the CIA payroll in the late 70s, and that he had been having his palms greased by a weapons delivery company called EATSCO — a CIA front/side company run by the notorious Edwin P. Wilson.

"According to Trento, Anwar Sadat had, by 1980, started an investigation into Mubarak's corrupt involvement with EATSCO.

"Both the CIA and Mubarak had motives to have Sadat dead.

"The CIA of course, having the contract to protect Sadat, possessed the means, at least to leave a critical security door open."

Al-Zawahiri was part of the Al-Jihad group which allegedly carried out the assassination.

Al-Zawahiri served a three year sentence in Egypt after he was found guilty in 1982 for conspiracy to murder in planning the assassination of Sadat.

9. Adel Darwish has written that, in 1986, according to an agent of one Gulf State Intelligence Service, al-Zawahiri moved to Peshawar in Pakistan 'where he was helped by the CIA to get arms, training and money for his followers to join the Mujahedine. ' According to the agent, the CIA were aware of who he was and his involvement in the assassination of President Sadat, but they gave him and his men new identities and new passports.' 10. Al Zawahiri's terrorist career reportedly includes the massacre of 70 people on a tourist bus in 1997 Luxor, Egypt, and the assassination attempt against Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in 1995. (Islamic fundamentalist link to British Fascists)

"Ayman al-Zawahiri, has been captured and jailed in Tehran, a leading Iranian newspaper reported yesterday.

"Zawahiri, the founder of the Egyptian Islamic Jihad, was arrested several days ago and has been imprisoned in the city's Evin jail, where political prisoners are usually held, the Hayat-e-Nou newspaper said.

"The paper is regarded as reliable and is run by Hadi Khamenei, a leading legislator and the brother of Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei."

Samudra speaks about the 2002 Bali Bombs

The Times of London, 2 March 2008, interviewed the alleged Bali bomber Samudra:

What happened at Paddy’s Bar and the Sari Club was “unacceptable”, he (Samudra) said.

Had he made the bomb? “No, no, no!” he said, shaking his head.

“I didn’t help to make it, and who made the bomb and when I don’t know.”

The second explosion was much bigger than they had expected, he said.

The only explanation, he suggested, was that “the CIA or KGB or Mossad”

The 2002 Bali Bomb attack involved three 'bombs' or 'devices':

1. A small device exploded outside the US consulate in Denpasar, causing only minor damage. The purpose of this device may have been to make the public think that the USA was the target.

2. A relatively small device exploded in Paddy's Pub in the night club area of Kuta. Customers of the pub ran out into the streets.

3. A very large device exploded outside the Sari Club, which is opposite Paddy's Pub. This explosion left a deep crater and killed many people.

It is believed by many that the main explosion was the work of the security services of one country or another.

It is believed that Samudra and the other 'Bali Bombers' were simple minded patsies.

According to a news story in the Sydney Morning Herald, 2 November 2002, the Indonesian security services may have handled the Bali bomb.

"Some time around the 30 October 2002, senior officers in the Indonesian military HQ gave a piece of information to a military attache from a Western embassy in Indonesia -the source of explosive used in the October 12 bombing in Bali was the head of the counter-terrorism unit with the army's special forces."

The father-in-law of the officer concerned is Hendropriyono, Indonesia's spy chief.

Allegedly, Kuwaiti citizen Omar Al-Faruq played a part in the Bali bomb plot.

Al-Faruq was arrested in Bogor on June 5, 2002 and handed over to the US authorities.

Former Indonesian State Intelligence Coordinating Board (BAKIN) chief A.C. Manulang was quoted by Tempo as saying that Al-Faruq is a CIA-recruited agent.

A Pentagon official in Washington has confirmed that al-Faruq escaped from a U.S. detention facility in Bagram, Afghanistan, on 10 July 2005.

The airline manifest of Garuda airlines shows that at least two generals from Jakarta visited Bali three days before the bombings and that they returned to Jakarta one day before the Sari Club was blown up. This was confirmed by armed forces chief General Sutarto, who claimed that General Djaja Suparman was on vacation, while General Ryamizard Riyacudu, chief of staff, was said to have gone to Bali for health reasons.

General Suparman is allegedly one of the generals behind certain 'Moslem' militias. He reportedly set up militias to counter student demonstrations in 1998. One of these militias, Pram Swarkasa, allegedly became Laskar Jihad.

Bomb explosions in Indonesia have have often been linked to the military. A bomb at the Attorney General's office in Jakarta in July 2000 went off one hour after Tommy Suharto had been interrogated by the police. The bombs were reportedly traced back to the army and a former member of Suharto's guard.

A spate of explosions in the capital Jakarta in 2000 included a huge car-bomb blast in the underground parking lot of the Jakarta Stock Exchange. Two members of Kopassus (army special forces) were convicted and jailed for that act of terrorism.

It was reported in the Jakarta Post that convicted Bali bomber Ali Imron had been seen, in 2004, having a Starbucks coffee in a plush Jakarta shopping mall in the company of top police official Brigadier General Gorries Mere. Imron apparently also visited the Hard Rock Cafe.

After Amrozi had been arrested for his part in the Bali Bomb, National Police chief General Da'i Bachtiar had a face to face meeting with him. Bachtiar laughed, shook hands and posed for photographs with Amrozi.

Most of the top Indonesian generals have been trained in the USA.

3. The military occupation of the Channel Islands by Nazi Germany during World War II lasted from 30 June 1940 until the Liberation on 9 May 1945.

"One secret that was buried for years was the fate of the 'Jerseybags' – the women who had sexual relations with German soldiers – and the children born from these relationships. Documents released in 1996 suggested that there may have been 900 such babies. One of the documents referred to a building called the Westaway Creche, in St Helier, which was said to be 'full up with those little bastards'. Bryn Estyn Boys' Home in North Wales

For many years, children complained of physical and sexual abuse in North Wales care homes, including Bryn Estyn in Wrexham. (BBC News WALES Decades of silent suffering)

There were stories of MI5 involvement.

In the 1980s, North Wales police carried out an investigation which was later criticised as 'sluggish, shallow and inadequate'.

In March 1992, 16 people were arrested.

Four were convicted, three of sexual abuse.

In 1996, William Hague, as Welsh Secretary, set up a tribunal, under Sir Ronald Waterhouse, to study the North Wales child abuse scandal.

Allegations were collected from 650 witnesses, who accused 365 people of abusing them.

In February 2000, Waterhouse’s 'Lost in Care' report was published. It criticised social workers, children’s home staff, police and local councils for not taking allegations seriously and failing to properly investigate.

The North Wales inquiry led to 10 convictions.

Scallywag Magazine alleged that MI5 used to take foreign diplomats to the North Wales homes, give them boys to 'play' with, secretly filmed them as they buggered, abused and tortured boys then kept the tapes as evidence.

"Scallywag alleged that ..... was a sadist with an abnormally large penis, who was particularly violent and without mercy in his treatment of the boys. The magazine alleged that on regular occasions his victims would end up in casualty wards. He was a leading political fixer and adviser to Margaret Thatcher....

"The former children connected with this empire of evil who died in mysterious circumstances may have been murdered by the British security services, the price of their silence their lives."

In October 1997 (PUBLIC FIGURES NAMED IN PAEDOPHILE RING By Nick Davies 1997) the following appeared in The Guardian :

"Policemen, social workers and prominent public figures have been accused of belonging to a paedophile ring which indulged in a relentless campaign of physical and sexual abuse in children's homes in North Wales.

"The names of the alleged members of the ring have been given by witnesses in public sessions of the North Wales Child Abuse Tribunal, but they have been suppressed by the tribunal's chairman, Sir Ronald Waterhouse QC, who has threatened the media with High Court proceedings if they print them.

"The Guardian today publishes for the first time detailed evidence about the alleged ring, which is said to have been based in Wrexham, and to have infiltrated local children's homes over a 20 year period.

"Witnesses claim that members of the ring used their connections with police and social services to conceal their activities. All of the accused have denied the allegations.

"Those named to the tribunal include:

"A man who bears the same surname as a prominent Conservative supporter. Two witnesses have told the tribunal of a rich and powerful man who belonged to the alleged ring.

"The son of an influential peer who admitted to police that he had been having sex with an under-age boy from one of the homes. Despite his admission, he was never prosecuted.

"A powerful public official who has previously been cleared of abuse. Six witnesses have given separate accounts to the tribunal of his alleged rape of young boys. Another has reported him attending parties in Wrexham which were supplied with boys from a children's home.

"Two social workers and two police officers, one of whom was accused of abuse on four separate occasions and exonerated each time, another of whom has since been jailed in another part of the country for gross indecency with a child.

"More than a dozen other local men, including an executive with a local authority, a senior probation officer and a director of a major company."

On 2 March 2008, Wales on Sunday quoted the views of a former childrens' home boy.

Owen, now aged 46, told Wales on Sunday:

"You could smell the fear in Bryn Estyn."

"It’s in my head every single day, something I will never get out of my life.

"Children in care are easy targets – they have low self-esteem because of what they have gone through at home.

"Why weren’t these things looked at earlier? They were pushed away because they would bring embarrassment.

"It’s just the same thing happening over and over again. People have been hiding things for years.

"It’s exactly the same as Bryn Estyn – brushing things under the carpet, pretending it didn’t happen and kids not being able to tell anybody." (Bryn Estyn victims relive nightmare as Haut de la Garenne gives up ...)

Owen said care workers threatened him and other children that if they spoke about abuse they would not see their parents and no-one would believe their claims.

Another Bryn Estyn victim, Timothy Williams, was abused from the age of 12.

“Seeing what’s happened in Jersey brings memories back, absolutely. It saddens me. It angers me and I want to scream: ‘Why didn’t you listen?’

“Undoubtedly there is more still to come out. It’s the same as North Wales – this is only the tip of the iceberg, but it depends on how much they are willing to bring to the surface.”

Carl Denning, 49, is a Welsh victim of the Jersey sex abuse scandal.

Denning said two children were found hanged at Haut de la Garenne (in Jersey) after they were abused.

Carl, who was aged six when he went to the Channel island home in 1964 and spent nearly five years there, said (Bryn Estyn victims relive nightmare as Haut de la Garenne gives up ... ) :

"The suicides were never spoken of.

"No-one saw the police turn up to investigate them. If you asked, the staff would just say, ‘it’s been dealt with’. It was as if they had just been swept under the carpet...

"We used to hear the screaming and banging going on," said Mr Denning, who is married with four children.

"The memory of the sounds has haunted me ever since. We all suffered at the hands of these people, so we knew what the noises meant, but couldn’t do anything to help.

"One lad hanged himself in the dormitory during the night. He figured it was the only way to escape. The other lad also hanged himself rather than face it again....

"As a child you don’t realise fully what is going on," he said. "But if you look at it now, you realise that something was not right.

"There were things that we were made to do which at the time you didn’t realise they were wrong.

"For example, we were made to stand to attention with no clothes on and they would check us and you think was this for a medical reason or for something else?

"It has shocked me, when I have watched the news, it has sent shivers down my spine to think what was going on there...

"I don’t think my experience there made my life any easier.

"I didn’t cope very well after and sexually have always had problems. My first marriage failed."

"The authority put me there, they had me taken from my parents and it was their responsibility to make sure I was looked after properly, but nobody checked if I was OK.

"How would I seek compensation? At the end of the day I want justice for those people that are here and for those who may have gone.

"I may be one of the lucky ones, but there are some people who can’t cope with what happened to them and it is them that we need to come forward."

"If they wanted to speak to me to share experiences and for support I would be happy for them to contact me," he added.

MI6 takes over the Conservative Party?

In 1931, the conservatives won 79% of the Scottish seats in the UK parliament.

Between 1983 and 1990, while the 'reportedly-Jewish' businessman Lord James Goold was chairman of the Scottish Conservative Party, life became difficult for the party.

In 1997, the Scottish Conservative Party lost all of its seats.

It had zero seats in the UK parliament.

In February 2008, the Scottish Conservative Party chose a new chairman, Andrew Fulton, a former top MI6 spy.

The Sunday Herald reports that false claims have been made about Fulton's academic credentials. (New top Tory in row over CV)

In his CV, Fulton was described as a "visiting professor" at Glasgow University's school of law.

A spokesman for the university said: "Mr Fulton is not associated with the University of Glasgow's law school and is not entitled to call himself a professor."

Fulton worked in the Glasgow University's law school at the Lockerbie Trial Briefing Unit until he was unmasked as a former MI6 spy.

A Scottish National Party spokesman said: "Being economical with the truth as a double agent may have been good training for Mr Fulton to become Scottish Tory chairman.

"However, it's embarrassing that his cover should have been blown within five minutes of taking up the post. The Tories will be shaken and stirred to learn they can't trust Mr Fulton."

In 2000, the Sunday Herald revealed:

1. Fulton had been MI6 station head in Washington

2. He was appointed to the Glasgow University law school to give impartial advice to the world's media during the Lockerbie trial.

3. Fulton was suspected of infiltrating the Lockerbie trial unit to block criticism of MI6 and the CIA over the bombing of PanAm 103 in 1988.

The Scottish Conservative Party should be renamed the Spooky Oligarch Party.

Jersey child abuse link to Islington, London

The above video showing Jersey has no connection to child abuse

Eileen Fairweather at the The Mail on Sunday has an excellent news story entitled 'I have known about Jersey paedophiles for 15 years,' says award-winning journalist.

Eileen Fairweather describes the links between child abuse in Islington in London and child abuse on the islands of Jersey and Guernsey. She also suggests possible cover-ups by top police and politicians.

According to the Mail on Sunday article:

1. About 15 years ago, Detective Constable Peter Cook uncovered a child sex ring, with victims in both Britain and Jersey.

Cook's police bosses barred Cook from alerting police abuse specialists in London. Inquiries by junior detectives were closed down by senior police officers.

The child abuse ring members included an aristocrat, clerics and a social services chief. Their friends included senior police officers.

Cook managed to meet people at the National Criminal-Intelligence Squad. Little happened.

2. Now, in February 2008, a child's remains have been found at a former children's home on Jersey. More than 200 children who lived at Haut de la Garenne have described sexual and physical torture dating back to the Sixties.

3. There are the links between the child abuse at care homes in Islington, North London, and the child abuse on Jersey.

14-year-old Jason Swift, killed in 1985 by a paedophile gang, is believed to have lived in Islington council's Conewood Street home.

Two sources claimed this.

Every one of Islington's 12 care homes included staff who were paedophiles, child pornographers or pimps.

Police secretly confirmed that several Islington workers were 'major operators in the supply of children for abuse and pornography'.

Islington children were taken to Jersey 'on unofficial visits'.

Government Minister Margaret Hodge, then council leader in Islington, denounced "gutter journalists" who supposedly bribed children to lie about abuse.

She was the first Minister for Children appointed in a newly created post within the Department for Education and Skills in 2001 . 5. Jersey social worker Simon Bellwood was sacked in 2007 after speaking out.

Jersey health minister Stuart Syvret was sacked after publicising a suppressed report into abuse allegations.

6. In June 1991, police in Cambridgeshire raided the home of Neil Hocquart who abused children in Britain and Guernsey. Hocquart, along with a social worker from Jersey, supplied child pornography to a huge sex ring.

Hocquart, nee Foster, was abused while in care in Norfolk and was eventually 'befriended' by Captain H. Hocquart of Vale, in Guernsey.

Cambridgeshire police and a Scotland Yard squad raided Neil Hocquart's Swaffham Manor home in June 1991.

At nearby Ely they found his friend, Walter Clack, who was also reportedly involved with child pornography.

Police did not get a chance to properly interview these men. Hocquart died suddenly and Clack 'escaped with a £5,000 fine'.

Scotland Yard detectives related that they found at least "two or three" wills of older men who died of apparent heart attacks shortly after leaving everything to Neil Hocquart.

These deaths were never investigated.

7. Nicholas John Rabet, born on Jersey, was a friend of Hocquart's. Rabet became a childcare worker on Jersey.

Later, Rabet became deputy superintendent of islington council's home at 114 Grosvenor Avenue.

Rabet became a key supplier of children from Islington's care homes to paedophile rings.

Rabet and a colleague took children on trips to Jersey.

'Allegations mounted but nothing was done'.

Rabet befriended the widow of an American oil millionaire. This lady died after writing her will in Rabet's favour. Rabet inherited a property in Sussex, where he opened a children's activity centre. Children in Islington's care were regularly invited to stay there.

Hocquart and Walter Clack became "volunteers" at this activity centre.

Hocquart befriended one young boy called Shane (not his real name) who stayed at an islington care home.

Sussex police raided Rabet's children's centre and then contacted Shane, at his Islington children's home. Shane confirmed months of 'abuse'. Attempts to investigate further 'were thwarted by Islington Council'.

Islington 'falsely told Sussex officers it had no file material on Rabet or his alleged victim'.

The independent White inquiry into the abuse in Islington children's homes found that "at assistant director level . . . many confidential files were destroyed by mistake, although there is no evidence of conspiracy."

During the Rabet investigation, Islington refused to interview any other children in care or help Sussex police identify other children in Rabet's photos.

Police decided not to prosecute.

Shane told journalist Eileen Fairweather: "This goes right to the top. You have no idea how big this is."

Fairweather writes: "Third World police... succeeded where Britain's finest in Cambridgeshire, Sussex, London and Jersey had failed."

Rabet was arrested in Thailand in 2006 and charged with abusing 30 boys, some as young as six. Thai police believed he had abused at least 300.

Rabat was never tried. He died suddenly on 12 May 2006.

8. Two other Jersey-born social workers also worked in Islington.

One arranged sailing trips to Guernsey; the other sent children to Rabet's centre. Both were accused of abuse.

9. When Detective Constable Cook travelled to Guernsey, he met two brothers whom Hocquart 'delivered to a high-ranking, respected local man to rape'.

Reportedly no action was taken by senior police.

Child abuse at the Kincora boys' home

"MI5 ran a brothel in Church Street in Kensington throughout much of the 1950's and early 1960's for the use of visiting dignitaries, diplomats and intelligence officers.

The British security services have been determined to keep Northern Ireland as part of the United Kingdom and reportedly have been prepared to use dirty tricks to control the political leaders.

Reportedly the security services were prepared to allow child abuse to take place at the Kincora boys' home in Northern Ireland.

Kincora was a boys' home in East Belfast, run by Joseph Mains, Raymond Semple and William McGrath, who were reportedly fond of young boys. (Kincora Boys' Home - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

McGrath was also the leader of an extremist Protestant paramilitary organization.

Allegedly, "Kincora was run as a virtual gay brothel by loyalist leaders and MI5 . Reportedly, in the 1970s, several newspapers claimed that the former UK Prime Minister Ted Heath, who was reported to be gay, was a regular visitor to Kincora Boys Home. However, references to this have been disappearing from the internet. (cached text )

In the book Who Framed Colin Wallace? (Who Framed Colin Wallace) by Paul Foot (Macmillan, London 1989), we learn about the Kincora boys' home scandal.

Allegedly:

1. Colin Wallace served in a special Ministry of Defence press unit in Northern Ireland which dealt in "psychological operations."

2. Wallace tried to alert the authorities about what was going on at Kincora.

3. McGrath was working for MI5; the Security Service ignored the plight of the boys at Kincora.

4. In 1973 MI5 set up a propaganda campaign named Clockwork Orange. The purpose of Clockwork Orange was to blackmail and control top political figures in Northern Ireland and Great Britain, including Harold Wilson and Edward Heath.

5. In October 1974, Wallace refused to take any further part in the Clockwork Orange operation. He was sacked and he moved to England.

The husband of a friend and colleague was found dead.

Wallace was accused of murder and sentenced to ten years' imprisonment.

On 30 January 1990, UK Armed Forces Minister, Archie Hamilton admitted that several key allegations made by Colin Wallace were true.

In 1990, two part-time members of staff at the Blanche Pierre care home on Jersey alerted the authorities about child abuse.

In 1999, a confidential report detailed "gross acts of physical and psychological abuse" at the Blanche Pierre care home.

In 2000, alleged victims complained to the police.

Marc Dutroux's lawyer, Xavier Magnee, said Dutroux, was part of a criminal network supplying the sex trade.

Magnee said Dutroux was a "small fish" working for a network with links to the police.

Magnee pointed out the failure of the police to process all the forensic samples discovered in a basement cellar in which Dutroux kept four of his captives.

Magnee said that some 6,000 hair samples found in the basement cellar where some of the victims were held had led to the discovery of 25 "unknown" DNA profiles.

"There were people in that cellar that are not now accused," said Magnee.

Roger Holland, from Jersey, was a convicted paedophile.

In 1992 Holland became a part-time policeman on Jersey.

Six years earlier, he had indecently assaulted a mentally backward 14-year-old girl.

He had admitted molesting a second child.

Why are kids so violent, particularly in the UK?

One of the main reasons is violent video games and films.

It is believed, by many, that the military is in favour of making people more violent by showing them more violence in the media.

A violent public is more likely to accept torture and war.

In the UK, Julian Brazier, a Conservative member of parliament, has failed in his attempt to increase censorship of video games and films containing extreme violence.

Brazier's plan would have allowed more appeals against British Board of Film Classification rulings.

Brazier believes standards had been "watered down" and explicit films and games were fuelling a "tide of violence".

The leaders of the UK Labour and Conservative parties opposed Brazier.

Brazier wanted MPs to have more of a say over the BBFC's membership and guidelines.

Brazier's plan would have allowed an independent jury to reverse a ruling, if 50 MPs signed a Commons motion - even after the film or game was released.

Brazier, quite rightly, was not keen on a particular film which "shows in voyeuristic detail women being tortured to death by SS camp guards."

Brazier told MPs: "The growth in violent offences is linked to the growing availability in the media of extremely violent and explicitly sexual material."

One MP reminded colleagues that the mother of murdered 14-year-old Stefan Pakeerah blamed his killer's obsession with the Manhunt video game.

The MP said video games were different from films because they were "interactive".

"When they play with these things they are able to interact, they can shoot people, they can kill people, they can rape women and that's what is so wrong about the situation we have at the moment," he said.

Stephen Pound MP said there was a danger that in extremely violent films "the sanctity of life becomes diluted", particularly when dealing with the young and impressionable.

Culture Minister Margaret Hodge (once linked to a child abuse scandal) said the BBFC, while not getting it right every time did an "extremely good job in incredibly difficult circumstances".

Hodge was still speaking as time ran out and the bill now stands no chance of becoming law.
